My 2 cents worth.

This current kerfuffle is causing damage more than good.

Where are we as a club? We are somewhere from 12-16 with those below us haveing more young players. Our leaders are flawed and we have a culture of not responding to adversity. The club and team needs a rebuild.
Is Mick the man to do the job?
He took over a talented but lowly West Coast, took them to 2 flags, 3 GFs and 10 final series in a row. Towards the end of the era, the stars were ageing and need to be replaced. In his last season they finished 5th.
He took over Collingwood at their lowest ebb. Within 3 seasons they were ina GF with an average-above average list which they could easily have won. Got blown away in another GF. Then as they slid down the ladder, he rebuilt a new team that would dominate the comp for 2 years and make 2 GFs again and many PFs.
At both clubs, he left the clubs as financial powerhouses. Not all his doing but winning culture does do wonders.
At both clubs, many of his proteges as players and assistant coachse have gone on to be AFL coaches.

So the question can he develop and rebuild a club is a ridiculous one.

He has been told that his contract renewal depends on how the team performs this year. What does that mean???
The President and CEO have said we are in a rebuild. Have they told the coach that?. It seems he is under the impression he needs to win. If we are in a rebuild, what are they waiting for? Either he's the man to do that or not. He has been ata the club 2.5 years. If they don't know him by now, they should resign for incompetence.

If not him who?
Can the club gamble on an unknown? who are the candidates left?
Or do we try a previously failed coach?

Stop the speculation, give him a 2 year extension and tell him to rebuild this club.

Took over a "talented but lowly West Coast"?
They won as many games as they lost in their first season in the AFL and finished 4th in their second year! That tells you how bloody good their list was!
As for culture, how was the culture at West Coast after he left? Have a look at the list of players from that time that have ended up in the toilet.

Mick Malthouse airs his views to AFL Commission for the first time

Quote:
Malthouse also described Carlton as a "sleeping giant" with only moderate finances and membership.

Are we Richmond :?: :donk:

The record doesn't mean much to him, but the whole family tree of the Madhouse will be at the game.

He is one of the best sales people and manipulators going around. I think l read somewhere that he said that Carlton are a sleeping giant. Lets people think that this can be turned around quickly if they extend him. False hope, that only benefits himself.

According to Leigh Matthews the record was broken last week.
Jock McHale coached a grand final by correspondence in one of the Grand finals because he was in hospital.
Today he wouldnt be credited with coaching that game but the AFL wont change it now.

You overestimate the IQ of the average footballer.
