Carlton were right to wait until the latter part of the year, but announcing three games in that we are going to rebuild is just stupid. It might be necessary but there was no need to say anything just yet.

Add triggs inflammatory comments about mick being old and asking if he has the energy to the list of stupid things to say.

On the flip side mick bringing the topic up every time, like hes doing everyone else a service by trying to get re-signed and then throwing his families despair into the mix is equally dumb.

@#$%&! this club has turned into dog shit.

Sure has. We're re-building like everyone is re-building. The club said it to try to put an end to BS like this thread where the media and 'supporters' get whipped into a frenzy because we haven't won a game after 2 rounds.

Who the @#$%&! isn't 're-building'?

This is the sort of crap that turns me off footy. As if the drug cheating cock suckers weren't enough, now we have this going on with us shitting in our own nest. The scum supporters will be having a field day.

When we went to the well we got Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuz. When Hawthorn went they got Hodge, Buddy and Roughead. That's how it goes.

Mick is two years into a 3 year deal. Let him coach the @#$%&! boys he's recruited in two drafts. We have some very good young men that need time. We have some old blokes who need to go, and we have some we need to trade.

It's football FFS.

They also took Thorp and Dowler and Ellis

Look its what you do with everything overall...

Perfect timing. breaks the record next wk and stands down due to family interests. Mick needs an excuse to step down To save his legacy. He steps down with no other reason then he cant coach and he is tarnished.

Put the cue in the rack. He just killed his chances of being resigned. Trigg will be thinking if you are having a large emotional toll back home by round 3, how can we extend you.

Could you imagine tony abott saying his wife is crying 3 times in past wk over the daily criticism he gets to the media or even a person under the pump at work to tell his boss can you back off my wife is upset. My god.

This guy is not fit for this job anymore. Sooner he goes, the sooner we move forward.

My wife cries 3x a week at me and I'm nowhere near $1m a year. I think he's doing OK.

The wife call is very embarrassing. He is looking for sympathy.

I can't imagine Malthouse sets a good example to his players. A coach should preach 'team', right now Mick is making it all about him.

He didn't walk away from a book launch maybe worth $50-100k.
Do you think he'd walk away from near $1M?

I hope he believes we can do ok out of this season. We will discover a few players.
I can't see him wanting to tank if there's no future for him at CFC after 2015.
Because of that Imo he won't tank as he did in 2004 to get Thomas and Pemblebury in the one draft.

I miss the ratts era when we played exciting footy and had rat bag characters still in the team.
We had the same stinking issues under it..
But hec...
It was fun!!!!
We played like the better teams are now.
super fast..lots of tackles..and we had finals to look forward to..even if you knew there'd be no flag.
Plus the added entertainment of people screaming about him on here and bagging his addiction to jelly snakes.
Ah, those were the days.
Who didnt love the 3 amigos that nite at etihad when we ripped the saints apart?
The boards never giving up its power anyway..but now we have
boring game plan with discouraged players..nerry a personality among them.
Yep
I miss the good old Ratts era.
Remember how gracious he was when booted out?
Now that is class.
No blaming
No complaining.

The daughter will come out soon and give everyone a spray.
Still got that one up his sleeve.

Me too, kenny. But those days are a long way off I'm afraid.

Although, I do see some light at the end of the long, dark tunnel. I've been amazed at what an outstanding player Doch is. Menzel is a future leader, Cripps looks like a gem and I also believe Boekhorst will be a gun - not to mention Ciaran x 2 and Tuohy.

The good news is their all young and talented. We also have Gibbs, Murphy and Yarran who is not yet 25. Kreuz has had a shocking run but is still only 26. Jacksch is 20 for god's sake.

There's a dozen very good young players.

The problem we face is that some teams are more equal than others - teams who have pillaged the draft, wrorted the cap and pumped themselves up with drugs all while under the strict instruction of the AFL.

The club pays Mick say $1 million per year?

You can't justify paying a coach that amount per year when you are rebuilding.

In days past, you could justify this but there is now a cap on football department spending.

The club would be better served hiring a proven assistant at $600 k and using the $400 k saving on a development coach, whilst the club rebuilds.

Malthouse is less successful than Pagan at Carlton. If Mick is retained, there will be a further drop off in membership. He has divided the Carlton faithful like no other coach because we are unsure if his heart is in it for the right reasons.

Agree totally, and Mick's victim mentality doesn't help. Being a highly paid coach who is constantly offside with the media means he will be under enormous and sometimes unfair scrutiny, comes with the pay packet. If Mick is concerned about the effect on his family then his decision is easy. He leaves or he doesn't raise it as an issue. Last year it was his grandkids not going to the footy. He needs to stop playing politics and playing the sympathy card and decide whether he can remodel this side and whether he cares enough too and he is doing it for the right reasons and then balance that with family issues and make a selfless decision, tho I am not sure selfless decisions are in his nature.

It really concerns me that SOS seems to have become such a central figure. Recruiting for GWS would have been a soda. Any of the bigfooty phantom drafts would have done alright with all the picks GWS had. I am afraid the more we claim we are changing the more we stay the same. Favourite sons, big name has been coaches. If Mick goes the replacement process will be the most important in our history. That really scares me.

Looking at our whole fiasco and it dawned on me ...

We could solve all our financial problems in one foul swoop by doing a TV deal with a network!

I mean look at us, we'd give Neighbors, Home & away, hell even Days Of Our Lives a run for its money. All the drama you could want in a soapy.

Get a crew, cameras, with a really good voice-over narrator, for an in-depth look behind the scenes at Carlton.

Would make riveting television for the whole family. The demographics all point in the right direction with pretty boys Gibbs and Murphy with their hair dramas, fashion and who's dating who.

Malthouse and his wifes tears, family dramas, the ins and outs of manipulating the press trying to keep his job would have the more educated punter on the edge of their seats.

Board room shenanigans, like coaching appointments would make for some awesome comedy too.

I just can't see a down side.

Exactly!

Its been 20 years already, think of all the cash we could have gained on the past 20 years. The Pagan appointment probably would have won a Logie award!

I don't think Ratts would take any pleasure in the Club's predicament.
