My god, he's getting dumber every week.

Hardly a glowing endorsement of MM from Trigg.

Sounded fine in the interview, in context.

I listened to all the interview. He was under the pump from the other people and in the big picture deservedly so, as he has been part of the board for the past 4 years. Talked about the list which was reasonable but is too much being put on SOS? Does he have the skill set to turn this around? Or is it just a big name and an appointment by a mate. I want to believe but there have been many false dawns over the last 20 years.

Keep hearing the rumour that Mick will break the record then retire as he has been told he won't have his contract renewed.

Oh yes, SOS is the new messiah but it gives everyone a little bit of hope (because he was give 437 draft picks, not because he's any good necessarily).

At least the idea of a messiah controlling the list makes sense, if the club gives him the power to do it and he knows what he is doing.

I think it has come down to a trust issue, that's why they wanted SOS so bad.

Even our recruiters couldn't stuff it up if they had picks, 1,2,3,5,7,9,11,13 & 15 in the one draft.

I just sat down to check this, and aside from some rookie selections I don't think this is accurate Synners; almost every draftee that has left has been traded out.

To this point the only non-mature age deletions have been:

Gerald Ugle (17 year old pre-selection, 2 AFL seasons)
Josh Growden (17 year old pre-selection; now punter for LSU, 2 AFL seasons)
Joe Redfern (NSW Scholarship, 1 year on rookie list)
Sam Schulz (re-rookied)
Tim Segrave (2011 rookie draft, year prior to entry, 1 AFL season)
Steve Clifton (2011 rookie draft, year prior to entry, 1 AFL season)

Their 'busts' so far would be:
- Boyd leaving, rather than the selection of Boyd in of itself
- O'Rourke, which still netted them value at the trade table

Every other time they've either been about to delist a player and secured picks and upgrades, or have had to squeeze a good player out and extracting incoming value.

This year will be the first year you'll start to see draft busts from them in the 2012 draft, which in retrospect looks like it was quite a shallow draft.

Could you elaborate on this Yazz? Where are the trust issues?

Mate if you want to go look that up you can, it's easy to find on Wikipedia and the AFL website, but I thought I'd cover players they actually delisted.

The closest other types to delisting for them would be:

Whiley (now with us)
Aylett & Edwards (at Essendon* for pick #48)
Bruce (at St Kilda for pick #48)

So pick 48 got passed around a bit prior to the 2013 draft as a facilitator, and while Bruce has been ok for the Saints (don't care about him exposing a structural flaw for the GC), Aylett & Edwards haven't done a thing.

Maybe we'll get lucky with Whiley?

For the record, Aylett & Edwards were zone selections, and Bruce & Whiley were some of the pre-establishment concessions so they had a development academy as they progressed through the TAC to the VFL before becoming club number 18.

It's 4 years before you can start to evaluate a draft class, and yet here you are calling all the shots. You are welcome to evaluate the 2012 draft and make a call, I suppose.

We don't have the depth of information that they do, and they sat down and listened to his logic.

We don't know what that is. I'd love to hear about it, but I don't think we will be any time soon.

IMO the 2012 draft was heavily gutted and while GWS did speculate a little with their picks, no other club has really trounced them with multiple winners aside from the Doggies with picks 5 & 6.

Here's a good look:

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_d ... r=2012&t=N

Not many players outside the first 25 that have played 15 or more games, and most of those are either mature-age, F/S or playing for St Kilda or Brisbane. By my estimation only Dean Kent and Tim Sumner break from those categories; not exactly a list of winners.

It's the 2004 draft all over again by the looks of it.

They probably need someone that they can trust to build our list up properly this time, we are already years behind where we should be, can't afford even the tiniest of slip ups.. You can't buy SOS out and he'll want to do it right to the depths of his very core.

GWS' record there saved only by Toumpas being such a bust (and ahead of Ollie Wines).

Plowman very ordinary and only picked that high as a teammate of O'Rourke, so that should be taken into consideration when working out a bust.

Plowman was picked on a flash of TAC form pre-elbow injury and honestly isn't a key defender. He could develop into a great tall mid, and they've signed him up until 2016. I think he will develop if they're prepared to move on from him being a key defender, at least at this stage in his career.

O'Rourke was something of a bust, but his mentality was clearly shit compared to his pre-draft days, and in retrospect you'd use that pick on Macrae or Wines.

Melbourne really did shit the bed again here.

Interesting that Malty has argued that he puts plenty of time into studying the opposition,
in contrast to the whack Ben Dickson gave him saying it was lack of basic opp. knowledge that compounded our loss against W.C.
Something to think about..
Does MM think that multiple taggers on players he considers dangerous constitute tailoring to the opp. in the modern game?
You see Dickson pointed out that we seemed to have no idea of WC's running patterns and style.
it was nothing to do with simply tagging their better players.

I'm concerned now, since this has irked our coach,
that we may use even more taggers in future games.

I think we need to bite the bullet and get our zone defence back in development. It'll teach the midfield how to support the team with - relatively - minimal physical effort.

Also, where were these comments bg? The post-game presser?
