How old is he? Too young, we need to use our first round on a 28 year old who is ready to go.

Stephen Silvagni faces huge task to rebuild Carlton after years of drafting blunders

Jay Clark wrote:
The Blues are not good enough to compete for a top-four spot in the short-term and are lacking the abundant young talent required to set-up another sustained crack at it in the long-term.

When the Saints and Western Bulldogs reached the same crossroad a few years back, they took a real and committed approach to rebuilding through the draft.

The question that will worry the Blues’ fan base is whether they have taken too long to reach the same conclusion? And whether being stuck in the AFL equivalent of a halfway house presents a clear vision for the future? And whether the club would be prepared to make hard calls on senior players who have currency at the trade table in October to secure prized extra draft picks?

********

Silvagni has returned to Carlton with high praise for the job he did at Greater Western Sydney.

But at Ikon Park, he will head over the waterfalls with both hands chained behind his back, wanting to help the club find an escape from the tough spot that it is in.

When Carlton will reopen its premiership window is unclear, other than to say the Blues will almost certainly go backwards before it goes forwards.

Even though we've been reading about our train wreck drafting stats on here for years, the breakdown - even for just those years - is astonishing.

the rookies in many cases shouldnt be getting as much of a look in.. but in our case they must... because theyre better than 3 layers deep draft picks

I'm feeling particularly pissed this morning about this cauliflower decision to draft Boekhurst before Goddard.

I'm going to vent this frustration in every thread possible.

Glad he's history. GAGF Rogers.

Then Mick can GAGF.

We really, really, really, really should have taken Goddard. That would have landed us two top-20 KP players in a single draft.

The years between 2009 - 2011 has given us virtually nothing.
We are honestly still paying the price for procrastinating over Wayne Hughes for so long.

And even when the board worked out he was shite they moved him sideways not out.
I hope the scouts we have used in WA have been given the flick.

Not before I say something
The article is actually pretty soft
Watson wont make it
Ellard and White are so so
McLean was good half the time
Cripps Menzel too early to call

the actual draft that annoys me the most is last year
The club says it is going to rebuild but then recruits a bunch of early 20 somethings

Of course there was the Luke Livingston draft the worse one of the lot .
and letting go talent like Laidler, Jacobs, Betts and Gartlett

What a joke of a club

over to you Cazz

There is no way that Brock McLean was worth a first round draft pick.

I was surprised that they gave a tick for the Mclean trade. He cost us pick 11 for goodness sake and that trade was announced a week BEFORE the trade period even started. :banghead: :banghead:

what melbourne did and didnt do with pick 11 has nothing to do with having a pick 11
