He wasn't BV; he'd always flirted with being more than an impact forward who would drift in and out for a half a season.

Garlett's best is sensational, but that was not his best yesterday. He ran forward of the play much more than he did with us and GC let him get away with it; the contested possessions and the centre clearance stats mask the near-uncontested nature of all of those gathers.

What's disappointing is that we've never had the structure to release running players like that; it's almost like we think it's cheating the contest.

I can understand MM letting Betts and Garlett go as time and time again in big games where it counted they went missing.
Only issue we have now is what they have been replaced with go missing in every game.
At least with Eddie and Garlett they gave us something some of the time.
Now we are getting nothing all of the time

Is there any basis to that comment whatsoever?

Any time we've made the second week of the finals in their careers.

Yeah, lets pretend the first week of finals didn't happen to suit our argument.
That's not really a big game, is it?

Plus I wouldn't think 3 goals and 13 tackles between them in 2011 was "going missing"!
The old wives tales live on.

Looking back, we did OK to win finals with names like Davies, Joseph, OhAilpin, Laidler, Bower, Russell and Laidler running around.

The point of excluding the first week is to see how it stacks up against battle-hardened and form teams; it's generally accepted that the top 5/6 in the competition are the only ones in the hunt that year.

I'd argue that when the intensity lifts, they don't as much as those around them, Garlett moreso than Betts. Waite was another.

Garlett was unreliable and had no ticker playing for us.
Dribbling shots at goal from ten metres out and missing instead of a simple drop punt, not watching the ball and fearful of physical contact in the marking contest and doing it time and time again.

Every player that leaves will have good games playing for an opposing side.

What was disappointing was the value we got at the trade table for him.

All ancient history now. Let's get a tank into young Clem.

Most realistic supporters wouldn't ve been expecting to make finals, so it wasn't that we lost against the Tiges that upset people. It's the manner in which we lost.
However, the conclusions about our team some people, particularly media 'experts', are drawing on the basis of one loss is a bit of a joke.
All of a sudden, it's being said as a matter of fact that we have no forward line, we have the worst midfield depth in the League, Murph is the worst Captain in our history, our defence is rubbish, our off season recruiting was a joke, and MM should be sacked. All on the basis of a game that we were still in the hunt to win halfway through the last term.
Still prepared to give MM the benefit of the doubt until at least the halfway mark on 2015.
If these issues are still persisting, then yes, it may most probably mean that this ll be his last year.
If things improve like they did the 2nd half of 2014, then like Richmobd showed last years, our fortunes can turn around pretty quickly.

Let's face it, if he can't fire up first round on his home ground against iffy opponents he NEVER will

Perhaps, but there might be someone else out there we miss if we don't do a proper search.

We played 2 Semi finals and were robbed in one we lost by 3 points. Waite didn't play in the 2011 Semi at Subi where we lost. The 2013 Semi was played in a swimming pool. Garlett played alright in finals generally. Betts had often lost form by round 18 in those earlier finals years so he was out of touch anyway by finals time. Last final we won Betts this time, who maintained form all year, kicked 3 and Garlett 2. Betts also kicked 2 goals also in the swimming pool semi final at ANZ against the Swans where we got smacked. Waite kicked 3 in that semi against the Swans too. So the blokes you criticised kicked 5 of our 8 goals that night.
