Docherty - starting as he finished last season, will be one of our best soon.
Bell seemed to play HF most pf the night and looks better when he is on the ball or coming from a wing. Got into it late but game was shot.
Jones.......Casboult..........if Cas wants his spot back it won't take much to get back in.
Menzel, had better days had worse......will be a gun.

My assessment of the kids......as for Murphy and Gibbs.......nice hair!!

Jones wasn't the worst, if you're average then you at least need the ball kicked to your advantage. Our disposal reminded me of 2005

I agree but also think that Jones is a one trick pony, if the ball is not played in to his advantage he is out of the contest very quickly.

Casboult offers the flexibility of second ruck which I believe affected Rowe's game tonight and throws his weight around more than Jones has shown so far.

Happy for either to star but believe that if all Jones is going to offer is 1 - 2 goals per game then Cas could do the same with the added benefit of ruck duties and some forward pressure.

That said his form in the practice games did not warrant his selection and I am happy for him to realize he has to work harder to be out there.

Jones should have had 4 goals midway through 1/3 quarter......,couple of deplorable misses.

However, when the balls on the ground he's incredibly bad. Besides effort, it's going to be hard to teach.....

Mentally weaker than the flakes at Richmond....good grief

Did Gibbs get close to a target tonight?

Murphy delivered another "Carlton Captain's game"...

how about that hovercraft eh?

fireworks were great, but too bad if any players have asthma.

they don't show betting ads on the big screen now..but when you kick a goal, they flash all around the boundary in super bright colours, instead of your team logo lights. just super!
the ads are incredibly bright and distracting during the game. if you suffer from epilepsy, you might struggle from the mild strobing effect.

the sound level of the ads during the breaks is ridiculous.

all this to marvel at, and then there was the game.
pretty much agree with Braithy word for word, except can't see how casboult in current form would make any difference.

I just hate our game plan.thought we'd turned a corner perhaps with the nab cup style, but no.
maybe next week .

Yep, a concern of mine with recruiting Jones, not good when ball hits the ground. Trouble is Levi is the same, a mark and kick player, he couldn't run out of sight on a dark night. We've got a real problem with opposition rebounding too easily out of defence.

Yarran and Judd tried hard.

Looks like it's going to be a long season. Just couldn't match their run. Don't have the depth to lose good players.

Docherty and Judd were good. Jones showed a bit. But far too many passengers.

Not much has changed.

Watching the game from behind the goals in the top stand it was really evident with our lack of run and spread. We don't get it out wide quick enough to stretch opposition mids and backs. We struggle to get a series of handballs going because we lack natural runners.

We try to kick the ball out of defence instead of running it out.

Losing Thomas was a huge blow. Having said that losing Betts has been a bigger blow. He would have kicked 5 tonight there were that many loose ball opportunities in our forward line.

Murphy is building his game around doing flashy things ... needs to develop the will of a donkey by wearing the heavy saddle on his back. He lacks that thing that says "follow me" to his team mates.

Jaksch was overawed. He will get better.

White did his role well and Docherty was our best.

Unfortunately it is going to take more than a hovercraft to paper over the holes! Bit of a worry that the bloke who had his bags packed and retirement holiday booked was easily our best on the night! Docherty was good, White good, Simmo always good, Bell tried, Carrots OK, aside from that not much on offer! If that is the kind of stuff we'll be dishing up and we want to grow the membership we are going to need a Bigger Hovercraft!

If he turns out to be right I'd rather hear it now instead of later; not for the player concerned, perhaps, but for my state of mind. :sly: :|

The decision to play White as a midfielder was @#$%&! atrocious, and Mick's feeling the need to defend it which means he in part agrees.

Sadly, he may now look for a means to continue to play White in the team. I would happily drop White and Jaksch and bring in Watson and Buckley.

Boekhorst or Tutt for Smith. The sub should be a rotational position, not a place to hide players with poor fitness. We have [REDACTED] this up for too long.

Viojo-Rainbow is no slouch and adds an elite kick.

Smith's skin folds were awful pre-draft and he'll need a year. Still added something tonight despite that, but not ready yet.
