What a load of shit.

Are you comfortable with Malthouse pressuring the club through the media Dane?

I'm not sure why you're laughing.
Surrey, redback, BBW all malthouse haters, no matter what he did they would hate him.
I'm sure that MLG is not the type to respond to such perceived pressure.
The only way Mick can apply any pressure is to win games of football.

Whether MLG responds or not isn't the issue.
Any opportunity we get to address the media should be positive reinforcement. We finished 13th last year and our membership numbers are poor.

Every effort should be made to focus on the positives. Good kids coming through, new President, new CEO, new direction. A focus on being inclusive and refreshed.
Mick would rather tell the media his contract status will adversely effect the coaches and players. He's an expert at making it all about Mick.
MLG should call him in today and kick him in the arse.

I would probably wait until I heard the whole interview before I made a judgement on what messages were sent.

You didn't get the impression that the interview was much longer than the snippets we were shown and that responding to the contract questions put to him was just a small part of it?

Yeah I do and that's the point. The only snippets I've heard today are about his contract sook. The rest of it is forgotten.
He just needed to say "We've made it clear contract negotiations will take place later in the year. It's no an issue"
Instead he tells the media it is a distraction. He knew exactly what they would focus on.
It's no something that accidentally happened.

It is a distraction.
The media are always going to make it a distraction.

Even if he comes out and says "We've made it clear contract negotiations will take place later in the year. It's no an issue", its a distraction.
Why wouldn't it be?
WTF can he do about it?

Was he asked if it was going to be a distraction?

I didn't take it as a 'sook' but I do admit I had a kid talking too loudly to his mother about something or other to my right and a dog and cat wrestling on the floor at my feet while trying to watch it on TFS.

Sorry Dane ... this does not wash ... if you want to complain about being smashed with injuries ... go back to the Ratten's last year. The team was absolutely crippled in those days ... and if it was convenient to overlook them then ... then its convenient to overlook them now.

You can't have it both ways.

We now have a better a team with worse results.

Come on Madhouse ... just do something!

Perhaps he's being sought out for interviews because he's about to break the coaching record, just a thought.

The team with the best players wins. Most would agree, the top three teams at the moment are Hawthorn, Sydney and Port Adelaide. They all play a different game style, which is a function both of the players on the list (i.e. their strengths and weaknesses) and of the coaches preferences (which presumably take into consideration game-day match-ups and the game style of the top teams).

I still don't see why Malthouses game plan is any worse (or better) than any other. It's just tactically different. And it has *clearly* evolved since 2012.

Let's face it, the crux of the problem is that he inherited a SHIT list and was forced by Kernahan and Swann to tell the world it was OK and that we were close to a flag. When Malthouse accepted the position, I suspect he had no clue how shitful things really were. I also suspect he clued in pretty quickly after walking into PP.

Our trading/recruiting has been better in the last two seasons than in the past 10 years. We've chopped a metric shit-ton of dead wood from our list: Garlett, Robinson, McLean, Duigan, Bootsma, Hampson, Lucas... OMFG what a who's who of under-performing flogs. We've replaced them with the likes of Docherty, Everitt, Thomas, KJ, Jones, Whiley... players that we know can play. We've drafted Boekhurst, Smith... who to my mind have already shown a bit. Give the man a chance to mould this bunch into a winning unit. I believe it can be done, and I believe Malthouse needs to be given a chance to continue what he started.

We're going to turn heads this year. The first quarter against Collingwood was a glimpse of things to come. We're going to play relentless, burst football for a period of time in each quarter.... hit the scoreboard.... then collapse back and defend, and score heavily on the rebound as well. Watch this space.

evolved from boundary to corridor
from zone to one on one
from down contested bombs switch running
from slow to play running and receiving
from no forward line to a structure forward line down the middle
from 1-2 spare men in defence to positional structure
