Based on the criteria of the AFL's new head coach course, Barker seems to be a candidate. Take from that what you will.

Why wouldn't you look outside the club for the next coach? The likes of Dew, Bolton etc? I can't think of a club that has planned succession outside of the Paul Roos bollocks. Well, and Collingwood.

I have no complaints with that, but that's not the question I was answering.

Another low by mr lost the plot on the footy show last night now using his assistant coaches and players as emotional blackmail to get his contract extension
What a self centred manipulator of the highest order and oh so transparent
his only input to the club over the last two years is a one legged has been and big hole in our outgoings
news flash for micky no one will lose sleep over your extension especially your assistants or players

a very desperate individual indeed
go out with some grace for gods sake you old fool

I think a decision will be made on MM within the first four weeks into the year. If we are 4-0 or 3-1 then I think they will extend his contract. If we are 2-2 or worse then Carlton will come out and say we will wait until the end of the year (he will be gone).

It will be a media circus if we don't come out and make our intentions clear early in the season.

It will only be a circus if Mick keeps making himself the centre of attention. Last nights effort was similar to his selfish little Footy Show tantrum when he was at Collingwood.
Unfortunately too many coaches think the world revolves around them. If Mick gets the arse, the players will come out the next game and play with the same effort and intensity as players have for 100 years. They move on very quickly.
Anyone who has spent a lot of time at football clubs will know players play for their mates, their club and their personal pride. Footballers are very resilient. They move on quickly.
When the ball is bounced, the coach is the last thing on their mind.

As for the assistant coaches, If they can't perform without worrying about contract extensions, piss them off now.

The President and CEO have been strong in their statements about the coaches tenure. If Mick performs well and the team improve, he'll get an extension. I don't see the problem.
If he wants to press the issue and play it out through the media, it reinforces to me that he still has the tendency to disrupt a club for his own benefit. Just as he's done before. If that's the case, piss him off. We're trying to build a strong, professional, inclusive Carlton football club. I have faith in MLG and Trigg to do that. It's not about one or 2 individuals.

Shut up Mick, do your job well and you'll get the rewards.

Look ... the Madhouse should be given this year to change his ways and to improve our position on the ladder. Its true we have gone backwards since he took over (better squad but poorer results) ... but we live in hope. We badly need to change our horrible game plan or at least have a back up plan. A lot of damage has been done and I am not optimistic but you never know ... ! I desperately want us to have a good year.

Whatever the case ... the Madhouse can do no wrong when coaching ... according to the press, 3 premierships in 30 year (1 in the last 19) makes him the greatest coach of all time. This myth continues to gather momentum (better PR that Apple ... who are the kings of spin) but the reality is we have spiraled downwards under his control. I suspect he will be given an extension regardless of how we perform.

Yeah, Surrey made that statement because he doesn't like Malthouse!
What a load of shit.

Are you comfortable with Malthouse pressuring the club through the media Dane?

I'm not sure why you're laughing.
Surrey, redback, BBW all malthouse haters, no matter what he did they would hate him.
I'm sure that MLG is not the type to respond to such perceived pressure.
The only way Mick can apply any pressure is to win games of football.

If he doesn't perform this year, I'm confident he'll be sacked.

He’s already reverting back to a more attacking game plan at times, just like last year. We just need to beat the weaker teams, you know the ones we got embarrassed by last year.

He will get us back to where we were or close to it and his tenure will be hailed a success

Long live the king

I don't hate the Madhouse. If he succeeds ... Carlton succeeds. I desperately want us to succeed this year.
The Madhouse should never have been appointed in the first place ... it was ill conceived ... na ... just plain dumb.

BUT ... if he can somehow bring success this year ... I would be very happy.

GO BLUEBAGGERS!
