New initiatives for Carlton-Geelong clash

Quote:
15 second shot clock – For when a player is having a shot at goal following a mark or free kick, a 15 second countdown clock will appear on the scoreboard and count from 15 down to zero at the point where the umpire tells the player he has 15 seconds remaining. The player must begin his approach before the clock reaches zero (or the umpire calls play on).

Explanation of free kicks during scoreboard replays – Currently, the television audience receives some explanation via the umpire communications system, but this is not heard by patrons at the ground. The scoreboard operator will be connected to the umpire communication system and will activate explanation of the reason for the free kick during replays.

Broadcasting umpire explanation of score reviews - The TV broadcast currently takes this audio and the AFL will now seek to play this audio on the ground PA, pending the audio quality.
but patrons are often uninformed.

Countdown of quarter and half time breaks - A countdown clock will be shown on the scoreboard to inform patrons of the time remaining before play is scheduled to recommence.

Roof positioning – At Saturday’s 1.10pm game between Richmond and North Melbourne and Sunday’s 4.40pm game between Carlton and the Geelong, the western roof panel will be adjusted into a different position to try and reduce potential sunglare issues on the ground during play.

These are all excellent and bring a greater level of professionalism to the game.

Casboult won't have to think about it when kicking for goal. Could be a blessing.

Hawkins will be stuffed - regularly takes 45 seconds plus

The only new initiative that I am interested in when it comes to playing Geelong is that we beat them in a tight contest in the home and away season with the umpires giving us quite a few dodgy free kicks.
That would be a new experience for me.

I think the 1st three initiatives are not necessary. It's a little over the top if you ask me.

The countdown clock to start new quarters and the positioning of the roof to help glare make sense.

The first three are pro-umpire changes, in the sense they will create a more positive environment for the umpires both on and off the field. On the field because the whole stadium will hear a player swear at them, off the field because supporters will have more of an idea of what's going on at the game.

They said he'd be subject to a fitness test, perhaps he's failed it or it's gotten worse through the week? These things happen.

The Barker quote was actually Gibbs being less likely to play in comparison to Murphy, not 'unlikely to play'.

Notable absentees are Gibbs, Casboult and Simpson. A couple of other surprises are Sheehan and Graham.

The squad will drop at least 3, but I think you'll see us go in with 3 on the bench and a sub or two to simulate round 1 conditions, which means at least 4 will not make the cut. I believe interchange restrictions will be in effect for this match.

Squad will look something like this IMO:

FB: Jaksch Jamison Docherty
HB: Yarran Rowe Tuohy
CC: Bell Murphy Carrazzo
HF: Thomas Henderson Everitt
FF: Watson Jones Menzel

RR: Wood Cripps Judd

Int: Boekhorst Buckley Curnow
Subs: White Tutt

I'll believe it when I see 1-2 weeks next to his name...

I've liked what I've seen in Smith. Intent, skill, pace and awareness.
Just needs experience and a tank.

Lets see if Watson will 2nd ruck.....or Jones....or Rowe....or we'll find out Sunday.
Ruck is a bit of a worry for mine, so I'm glad Wood is on our list.

Amazing to see Kreuzer training with the moon boot albeit walking pace...its a good sign, although I have my doubts.

I hope to see more of Byrne this weekend. He impressed me last week. Surprised Sheehan isnt playing.

I'm guessing Dick may get a sniff given his good game in the 2nds last week. His kicking sounds a bit suspect.

Looking forward to a good hit out against a strong team with 2 power forwards.

No Graham....mmmmmm...so much for his outstanding preseason.

Looking forward to Bell, Cripps and Carrazzo hitting their mids hard around the packs and getting first hands on the ball.

Another game against a finals contender under BB's belt should do him wonders.
