Great point em. Likely looking at which of the young guys match up well against their players in preperation for that game. RD 2 will be a totally different game to watch no doubt.

Given we play the Eagles in rd 2, maybe we played such an inexperienced team so we didn't show our hand? I mean, you'd struggle to name 10 players that will most likely play in rd 2 that played last night.

Yarran
Simpson
Rowe
Doc

Are the only locks I can think of.

For those talking about how we were beaten in close: we weren't. The stats and the game showed we were beaten on the spread. Their work rate was superior and their senior types more numerous and generally playing more game time to a man.

I think it reflects two different philosophies re: the match and conditioning programs leading to the match. We don't have another NAB fixture for 17 days so I guess we'll see if putting the cue in the rack and flogging young bodies in the lead up was worth it.

Meanwhile they had at least 14 locks.

And Menzel.

Buckley played a good game forward in the intraclub but seemed to struggle down back last night. That could've been just because of the pressure our defence was under due to zero midfield pressure though.

Lachie to lead Jones & Casboult in the forwardline will make a world of difference. Sit and watch Lachie for a few minutes during a game - leader written all over him. Forwardline lacked experience/leadership last night.

Played a bunch of kids (bar maybe 6 regulars)
Weren't even coached by our proper coach...
Were never going to get near them.
Even commentators, who usually love to stick the boot into us, commented that they expected us to get smashed with the team we put on the park, and that we did very well to avoid one.

They were really only missing NicNat, Darling and Selwood. The latter 2 will be lucky to play Rd 2 anyway - and if they do it will be their first games off no preseason.

Just watched the replay.

4 goal wind against us in the 1st and 3rd quarters. Not a night for forwards.

WCE played last week against the indigenous all stars so were a week ahead of us and had close to a full side in.

Bonuses for us are Jacksh looks like he will slot in. Got to the contests and good decision making. I reckon clem will also be something. Fierce attack, and has some pace.

Disappointing aspect was none of the more senior guys stepped up. Next tier (apart from Yarran and Curnow) didn't respond to the opportunity. Likewise, kicking goals might be hard this year. Not a good night for them but I wasn't impressed with Levi or jones. Kicking to them was ordinary but they too were in the wrong spots. Watson had no ball to him and our whole approach forward was haphazard and ugly.

Hope it's just cobwebs.

So what
Will WC make the 8
I doubt it
What happens if we lose 2 to 3 of our better players
Our depth is terrible

I thought it was all pretty ugly. I know we can field a much better team but i expected better. The forward line was a terrible. Poor efforts by all the talls who were unable to put in repeat efforts. I feel we will struggle if we pay 3 talls out of that bunch in our forward line.

Looking forward to improvement in our next game.

Hard to kick goals if you don't get it delivered well.

More worried about keeping it in. Seemed bounce straight back out and down the other end with most entries.

They won the flag last year, and the year before... Jed Anderson looked good amongst others, and their second tier can kick!

They have an excellent recruiting network, lots of members, and are a well run club!

So to answer your question, NO!!!
