MATTHEW Kreuzer could be sidelined for longer than six weeks by the latest setback to his troublesome right foot, Carlton's head of football Andrew McKay says.

Kreuzer has been ruled out until at least the early rounds of the season after scans revealed a hairline fracture to his fifth metatarsal.

The 200cm big man suffered the injury after "an unfortunate movement of the foot" during an intra-squad match on Thursday and is expected to be in a moon boot for four to six weeks.

Carlton opens the season against Richmond at the MCG in just over six weeks on Thursday, April 2.

The setback comes after Kreuzer played only one game last season due to a fracture to a different part of his right foot.

But McKay said Kreuzer's injuries could be connected and conceded the former No.1 draft pick might face longer than six weeks out given his history.

"It will just depend on how long it takes for that bone to heal," McKay said.

..yep, it all comes back to playing him with the injured foot in the last round and first final of 2013.. .... ..for what gain?, a wanky finals entry and a finals win..??.. ..and it's worth risking an important players' career over..??..

I was hoping for a big year from the big K... still have hope.

I have Tiger mates that continually bait me about the Kruezer/Cotchin draft picks.

And people wonder why I enjoyed the elimination final so much?

I would've thought playing a final is EXACTLY when you would risk a player.

Poor kid.

How many games has he got to go to 100. Then put him out to stud with Liz Cambage for a real seven footer.

Maybe, but I can't see it being far away, and yesterday has almost certainly brought that day even closer. If our recruiters couldn't picture this happening then God help us.

..even if all rucks were super fit, we should have drafted a raw project type.. ..they take a few years at least to come good.. ..we'll have to pay overs to import a good ruck now if krooz doesn't come good..

Hey Hornet, SMS from a Bitchmond supporter came in to me & read 'Kruezer injured again. Lol Dog meat'. I think I know what you mean.

Best of luck to him. He is not without skill.

Looks like either a Warnock/Casboult or Wood/Casboult ruck team for a while.

At least either of those options is still an improvement on the Ackland/Prendergast ruck team of not so long ago.

Fingers crossed for the big fella, but risk mgt 101 says find another quality ruckman.

Sounds like it was an unfortunate in-play type of activity, but - despite my lack of medical background, I would hope that, considering the nature if his injury, he was never included in any lengthy running activities on anything other than soft surfaces like grass.

Agreed.
Should have happened last year.

At least Mick had the sense to bring in Cam Wood .... but a young ruckman on the list is overdue.

McKay and the gang can't put Kreuzer in that box anymore - his body aint young anymore, sadly.
Time for new stocks.

Hope Krooz can get his career back on track, but we need a Plan B.
