The only thing Swannie couldnt do that Kouta does is run.Week in and week out he was a mile ahead of Kouta.ALWAYS shone on the big occasion and didnt understand the meaning of the word nerves.Four flags and in the best players everytime says it all.

While I know who Swan McKay is, I can't say I ever saw him play.

All I can do is rely on my dad for that sort of info and in his eyes Swan was an out and out champion. But then again, so was every Carlton player back then according to my dad.

I grew up watching Swan McKay - most consistent high mark I have ever seen.

One question - how the hell did he not make the Team of the Century ??

Swannie was a great Calrton player and I only saw him in his twitlight days but he could pull that ball down and make magic with it

But why break with tradition just because one player has let us down? No 16 can be rested for a year.

Are we breaking with tradition? This seems to me as uncharted territory afterall Campo will be playing for another club and won't be retired next year. Has it happened before?

Personally nothing will please me more than to see a young gun wearing No.16 next year and playing footy with the passion and commitment that his predecessor lacked, especially the last few seasons.

That "tradition" has only been introduced in the last few years. Up until then it was usual to immediately replace all jumper numbers.

One of the most magnificent, consistent and reliable high markers of a football our club has ever had, IMO, and the best torpedo punt, along with Malcolm Blight, that I ever saw. One of our best from the glory era, without a doubt

Why retire numbers.Move on and give the number to someone who you think will be good

Has Geelong got a knew no 5.No which is utter bullshit. What do they think. Is gazza coming out of his depressed state to help the cats break their 43 year old drought?

Bentick should get the number 2 and give Russell 16.And strip Davies of 7.Ratten and dom must be embarassed by this.

Whilst I'm not sure who you'd drop to make way for Swan it wouldn't surprise me if Elliott's opinion of him may have worked a little against him at the time.

Robert Walls....3 Flags as a player and Premiership Coach of '87; was unable to make the first 18; such was the array of Champions we've had at the Club.
