Hawthorn 2009 proved conclusively that injuries do matter. That cannot be disputed.
in 2014 we had many players that were either out or underdone because of post season ops. not only that they were significant players not just depth players

As others have noted the great sides continue to win with injuries. No one is arguing that carlton are a great side. But even the reigning premiers Hawthorn succumbed to injuries in 2009

..walker played injured, doc missed early games thru injury and underdone due to no pre season.. ..murphy missed games from Hodge bump.. ..touhy injured and underdone.. ..all regular players..

In truth it could be argued that MM and Blight's actions are very similar — MM also received an offer 'too good to refuse' but where Blight is the saint MM is damned for the same choice.
