So Lappin a vice captain then, is that the money?

Good. Would be a nice comparison in 06 - lose one vice captain because he doesnt like losing anymore, gain one who stays not for money but because he loves the club and wants to be leader and fast track the younger players.

Different planets those two.

I think we showed Aaron Hamill what we thought of him and the No. 4 by giving it to Livo - surely there must be no greater insult !!

Ok, we should have kept Clarke on the list
and given him no.16 :!: :)

I wonder what Swan would make of that comment?

Great player but appart from the diehard fans not may people associate No.43 with him. Kouta has imortalized that number.

I associate 43 with 2 great players. I am sure most people of my vintage would do the same. Swan Mckay played in 4 premierships (70, 72, 79,81) and 263 games, and I saw all but a handfull. :-D

But why break with tradition just because one player has let us down? No 16 can be rested for a year.

Comparisons are odious and as one who doesn't mind a good odour...

Kouta on his day is obviously the better player but I wouldn't hesitate to suggest that Swan had the more impressive career.

Had his body held up Kouta would be an all time great of the AFL in the league of Matthews, Williams, Skilton, Hird, etc. Unfortunately his injuries put paid to that and we'll just have to remember a couple of brilliant seasons and a number of good ones along with a healthy dose of frustration and a salary that gave many of us the shits.

There were games where Kouta did things on the football field that no-one had done before but anyone questioning Swan's place in the game should get themselves a DVD or two of 70s footy, grab a cold one and bliss out for a couple of hours.

Too close to call for mine, Swan on his day would take 17 marks and totally slaughter a team's chance of getting past CHB, the he'd be up forward kicking a needed goal - sound familiar? There was a reason the club gave Kouta that number - When swan first came to Carlton he hoped to play as a ruck rover - tall, mobile and the best mark I've seen.

Players like Swan McKay were the ones that spoiled us Carlton supporters in the 70's & 80's in that they were so reliable and consistantly good it gave us supporters that bullett proof confidence that we would at least make the finals and be a good chance to win the flag...year after year.
Swan was a CONSISTANTLY great player and very underrated imo.

Are we breaking with tradition? This seems to me as uncharted territory afterall Campo will be playing for another club and won't be retired next year. Has it happened before?

Personally nothing will please me more than to see a young gun wearing No.16 next year and playing footy with the passion and commitment that his predecessor lacked, especially the last few seasons.

I guess it depends on how old you are. If Kouta hadn't worn 43, kids today would have no idea who Swan even was.

Why does it always seem that if someone says it is black that you Verb's will immediately say it is white?

Some responded to a post highlighting an erroneous view about the #43(one that i might add that i share)

I wouls rather like to think that i savour ALL the players that wore the Carlton Jumper.
I might not have seen Ansell Clarke,Jim Parke,Harry Vallence,Horry Clover,Bert Deacon etc,but i revere the jumper and acknowledge their history.

Just because someone may not have seen the "Swan" do nor assume that they have no appreciation of their value to the C.F.C!

Why does it always seem that nine out of ten posts by you 7dominator are having a go at another poster?

Did you even notice who highlighted the, as you call it, "erroneous view" in the first place?

I guess it depends on who the 9/10 posters are?

I was just responding to your statement that suggested that if it was,nt for Kouta many Carlton fans would'nt have known who 'Swan "was!

To my mind that does a diservice to many like me who revere the jumper and have an appreciation of the History that goes with the jumper!

If argueing this point suggests that i am having a go at 90% of TBV posters i plead guilty!
I guess that i will have to be judged by my peers?

So did you notice who initially wrote "I wonder what Swan would think of that comment"?

I'm guessing a big fat NO based on that post.

With Campo's "jumper number" being discussed; is't it similar to Justin Murphy leaving us for Essendon* and we immediately gave No.18 jumper to Glen Bowyer?

OK Murph was'nt a champ, but he did play 115 games for us.

If Campo goes ; No.16 goes to a new Blue and a new career.

350 odd posts ,suggest 310 slagging off others..History might suggest otherwise!

A cursory look would indicate a tendency to fall into arguement with those who are constant baggers of the Club!

Sorry about that!

So? Did you notice who first said "I wonder what Swan would think of that comment"? Of course not!

And a cursory look would be futile when accusing me of bagging the Club!

Sorry about that!
