Pretty positive from the coach this morning....key points:

Over the moon that Skinny re-signed...but Blues are persuading the board to approve a few little things for Matthew in addition to the money ...
Defended Ron Joseph however (why?)
Mentioned the 20-22 year olds who have 30 odd games under their belt and that their future looks very bright.
Looking forward to 2006
Setanta if he has a good pre-season will be a regular fixture...has done everything asked....don't know where he will play, but perhaps a key defensive post.
Says Blues haven't decided on #1 draft pick...not harrassing Wayne Hughes because he knows that with pick 1 and 4 they are going to get something good...totally WH's choice here -
Says Campo has plenty of footy left in him...will be missed (i guess he has to be a little bit diplomatic here otherwise it will make headlines).

On a personal note (from me) I think we should break with tradition and hand out the number 16 next year.

I agree....and to the last player to make the list at that, just to show the number the same respect it's previous owner showed us at the end.

I reckon we need a year to get it out of our system

If I was a new player I don't think I'd like to take the number that had just been crapped upon by a senior player walking out on the club.

na it might still be tainted, bury it for a year in a vat of Collingwood dreams, that'll clear any up!

Couldn't agree more. By disrespecting the number, you are disrespecting anyone you put in it.

I think if I was half a chance to play a game for Carlton I would just about wear the number of the beast (666) if they asked me to!

As a tragic Carlton fan I agree you'd probably be willing to play in nothing but Hamill's unwashed jockstrap, but draftees aren't often fans of the club they go to.

Campo will be eternally hated by Carlton supporters for being a money hungry traitor, and eternally hated by Essendon* supporters for being a carlton player. The only thing he will take from football will be money - which is probably all he cares about anyway. He broke the code by jumping ship on the club because times got a little tough and rubbed our faces in it further by announcing his intentions halfway through trade week. Players like this don't deserve the respect of having their jumper retired for a season; you leave this to true champions like McKay and Rats. Offer it to AB, he's a blues supporter, hopefully he'll get his name on the locker soon so we can forget what came before it.

No room for sentiment or petty grudges when a guy leaves under these circumstances. It's just like any other number now as far as I'm concerned - slap it on the back of a youngster, and let's move on.

Just to bring this back on-topic a little, I'd be happy to see Setanta continue his footballing education on a horses-for-courses basis - there will be plenty of opportunities for him both forward and back next year. Everywhere in between, too, most likely.

We could give him #10 in that case.

This shouldn't be a problem when you consider that Campo hasn't retired from the game.

If people have that attitude then no one will want to wear No.4 again because of the way Hamill left the club. I wouldn't stress too much about numbers because they've all seen champs and duds. Who would have thought No.43 would become famous ten years ago

The club should definately give #16 to one of our young guns next year. I would've thought that any kid would love to wear the guernsey Jimmy Buckley wore. Great, tough Carlton man is our Bucks.

Great player but appart from the diehard fans not may people associate No.43 with him. Kouta has imortalized that number.

I think we showed Aaron Hamill what we thought of him and the No. 4 by giving it to Livo - surely there must be no greater insult !!

Depends on your era I guess. For me I agree with you, but Swan has won a few more flags than our Kouta, he'd swap his famous number for 3 flags, or was it 4 for Swan?
