SOS hasn't even started in this role at this club and already people on this forum are seeking to tear him down. It brings a whole new meaning to the term "supporters". SOS is a club legend for his football exploits at this "proud" club. He deserves as much as anyone the chance to prove himself in this role at "our" club.
He and his family have bled blue for this club over generations. Serge and SOS having played in excess of 500 games combined for this club and been there at the forefront at some of our finest hours.
If we at least can't respect his past contributions both as a footballer at Carlton, and in his various roles at other clubs, and give him a decent fair go, then we may as well jump ship to "support" those clubs that are "doing it all right".
Maybe the name of this site should should be changed to "Slamming Carlton". The AFL shafted us once over salary cap "cheating", but many of our so called supporters on this site have been perpetually and repeatedly shafting the club and its business and playing personnel since. We are becoming, or already have become, increasingly bitter, twisted and cynical. Whilst our club could be doing things better or differently, our own views on how things should be done are honestly no more likely to be effective than what the well credential people running our club, with their best intentions are trying to do. If truth be known most of the loudest and most persistent critics of this club on this site would likely do a much poorer job if CFC were stupid enough to give them that opportunity.
Whilst I too am frustrated and disappointed that we have not enjoyed the recent success that we became used to in the 70's, 80's, and 90's, turning feral toward the club (and each other) will achieve nothing, apart from making some individuals feel vindicated and gloat when we don't make the top four each year. Fourteen teams have to miss out every year.
We will get back there, but all the complaining and bellyaching in the world won't get us there any faster. If you honestly feel that you can do a better job then put your hand up for election to the board or apply when job vacancies arise and show us all how clever you are. Tearing down is too easy, but building up is hard and takes integrity, hard work, belief and patience. We need to become part of the solution not part of the problem.
Can't knock SOS....he is far better placed than those of us in the stalls watching on!
