Richard Branson's MO is "don't get the best person available, get the best person".

If we've tried that and can't entice some of the better list managers in the comp to come to us, then is SOS the best *available*. I have my doubts. Sticks out, SOS in. Wonderful re-brand... different club now... new approach... bah.

I must be one of few that will welcome him home.
He has been in the system for several years with other clubs so the jobs for the boys line doesn't wash with me on this one.
If he can use his contacts and friendships developed with GWS to benefit our club in the coming few draft periods he is worth his weight in gold.

SOS along with Harmesy and Dominator my favourite blues players.

Nice to see him back at the place he loves. Hope it works out...

Hard to measure how he has performed at GWS because they were allotted so many gifts by the AFL ... but seems to have done pretty well.

Lets face it ... our recruitment has been woeful for so long ... so happy to see a new face in charge.

Also great to the see the Silvagni name associated with the Blues again. Hope his sons join him in time.

Will he have to recuse himself with any FS duties?

Thought that was Big Dick Pratt's motto. Well outside "fix prices, make money".

Not sure what to make of SOS's appointment.

On one hand you would have thought that the AFL had a fair say into the appointment of SOS to GWS and must have felt comfortable with his credentials given how important it is for the AFL in a new and difficult market.

On the other hand, he has yet to demonstrate that can successfully manage a clubs list.

Never the less, welcome back SOS

Maybe Branson stole it from Pratt.
Wonder whether he made good on that for the spaceship that blew up recently...?

Hard to judge SOS' performance at GWS given the resources he had available, but happy nonetheless to have my all-time favourite player back at the club.

Welcome home SOS

I don't know whether SOS is the right person for the job. It's hard to judge him on what's happened at GWS to this point.

However, it's nice to finally have a LIST MANAGER!!!! IMO as important as the Coach.

Hopefully next year our recruiting and drafting will start to make some sense and we will have some real strategic plan to build our next great side.

Good Luck SOS.

The role is the most important thing. The fact that we haven't had one is an indictment.
It's great to have people around who love the club

Tax deductible dollars......

And they get back more in value than you think Dukes.

It's part of doing business, good investment.

Typically, the break up of the clubs revenue is

~12 million corporate sponsorship
~10 million gaming revenue
~9 million AFL dividends
~9million general memberships
~3 million gate receipts
~2 million merchandise
Plus member venue revenue.

The gaming revenue streams are a relatively new income flow (Matheisen). Gaming cash is now about equal with membership revenue.

The public losing money on pokie machines and drinking, is just as financially important to the board as the ordinary rank and file members. It shouldn't surprise anyone that members are treated with very little respect at Carlton.

And it doesn't need to be like that. Collingwood turn over about 80 million per season, and 1/4 of that is gaming revenue. But they, through Edie put a lot of work into the ordinary membership base. Probably the best at it in the league imo. I think we Blues are at the other side of spare turn on that front. One of the worst.

And the AGM on the 18th December will be a good example of what we have become as a club. We are a corporate cult.

Especially when it's not "the list manager"

Welcome back home SOS.

Good timing too.
He knows as we all know the club is improving in many areas we were weak in during the Elliot-Kernahan eras.

If he can snag us some more GWS talent next year...mmm he will have done a good job.

He's not here to fail.

I believe this is the beginning of something BIG!

..I hope his job as list manager is also 'hands on'.. ....he can manage our list out on the training track.. ..if he can get all our kpps to play half as well as he did (forward as well as back) then he has already helped manage our list..

Welcome back SOS , one of my very favorite blue boys , the reconciliation was long overdue .
At long last we have a List manager an important component to help develop a winning team.
2014 has been a monumental year of changes, there is a positive feel about the place, I'm looking forward to some real success the few years.
Ciao

Blue through and through. Three generations coming up. And Jo is a worthy addition to the WAGs.
Welcome home, Stephen.
