The list certainly appears to have increased depth, but as psych mentioned above I think we are lacking for top level talent.

3-4 years ago I would've rated Judd and Murphy as elite, with high hopes still for Henderson, Kreuzer, Gibbs and Yarran.

Right now I'd say Gibbs is elite (possibly being a touch generous there). Murphy hasn't produced to an elite level for a couple of seasons, Judd is the wrong side of 30, Kreuzer and Henderson have been injury hit and while I still hope they become elite, the odds are now worse than before. Yarran is very good at his role, but not elite.

My point is that our top end talent is less than it was previously. Our depth is stronger, but we really need 2-3 players to step up and become stars. Menzel has that potential. Boekhorst, Cripps, Docherty and Jaksch seem the next most likely. Do they fill me with as much confidence as the Henderson, Kreuzer, Gibbs & Yarran group of 3-4 years ago.. probably not.

Which is the prototype Collingwood situation.

Always a great selection of good to very good players who could get you to a Grand Final but alas...

2010 Collingwood premiership team had Pendlebury, Swan and Thomas in the middle with Cloke in form at CHF. We've got some developing to do if we want to match that top level talent.

the most common attribute across most of the new recruits is that they have excellent foot skills. seems that we rate thus highly.

Sack whoever got us that phone number.

87, fair enough. 93?!?!?! @#$%&! 93?!?!? And typical jumping the gun on 2014, got nowhere near it! Is this part of our 3 flags in 5 years campaign? And 2000 just rubs it in that we've got Jason Johnson on our payroll....

Telecom have a lot to answer for here.

I was listening to SEN today and they were discussing the trade/draft period and went through each club.
When they were discussing Carlton it was pointed out that prior to this period we had the least number of players in the 21-25 year age bracket, only 4/5 in fact compared to 17 at some other clubs. This was addressed and it was pointed out that is was unusual to take a 21 year old with your first pick, as we did. Even after adding several players in this age bracket we still only have 9, the least in the competition.
Said we were an unknown as far as where we are at, lots of players in the older age bracket but still not really contending for a flag.
Those "lost" years in the draft have really hurt us down the track.

There are the "lost" years where we flowered ourselves late 90s with our trading away early picks and poor selections, which was exacerbated by the reaming we got by the AFL in 2002.

Since then we've had almost 2 draft cycles to sort it out ourselves and we've flowered it up again.

I trust that Malthouse has identified the problems and has instigated measures to address it, I like most of our trading decisions since he's been in charge.

But the jury is still out on the drafting side of things.

From my way of thinking we are still going for the miraculous cross court passing shot from deep in the back court (Boekhusrt) rather than the playing the percentage shot down the line (pick a player  ).

Who would trust the recruiting department after the last 10 years or so of recruiting?
I think it is pretty reasonable that we all have doubts.

Our recruiting team might think they are John McEnroe but they are more on a par with Hank Pfister.

The right-hander reached his highest individual ranking on the ATP Tour on May 2, 1983, when he became World No. 19.

Wow... next you'll say our development team is more like Steve Denton.

Really? Already heard SR's explanation, and he made no sense... I was after some of your views... but you're more interested in "noise" and glib replies than responding to genuine questions...

Clearly you missed some of the ten commandments... particularly engaging and communicating with members

Me thinks you got the analogy around the wrong way, maybe it's different in shorter forms of the game like cardio tennis.....
