I liked it when it was “The Best In The Business”

Pretty sure that was the year after we’d been fined a million dollars & banned from 2 drafts

Did we have the Ch7 commentary team doing our slogans then?

No, then it would have been... "Carlton: You'll love what we bring to the table."

Here is a copy of the picture by the way..

Is that Jim Buckley in the far left corner?

If so, wouldn't it have been good to have his arm around Dylan Buckley? That type of thing creates an added message of generational support. Why not have photos of lots of fathers/sons both in Carlton gear...Carlton - it is a family thing or something of that nature. Use it as part of a membership program.

I don't know...there are just a lot of things one could improve with the messaging of membership.

If they want to get to 50,000 members - there are surely more things they could do to market it properly

eg.

Carlton - it's a 151 year tradition...it is part of something bigger than the individual.
Belong - blue and bold.

Where's Captain Carlton doing a handstand on the stand roof?

And that image of Bec and Jen posing together?

I think this effort's not bad though.

(Is that crazy bearded guy to the middle left a fan or Levi?)

Today I was informed that I had to move seats to make way the the new membership pricing regime.

I was assured that I would be provided a superior seat further along the wing (further from the social club) and that all would be good.

Then I hung up and thought about it. What happens to the relationships I've built with the people around me? Nameless and faceless in the real world yet on game day providers of banter, jokes and things that get you through sht games? I sit by myself, am kind of shy, it takes me a while to build relationships.

The only time I personally hear from the club is when they want money, or to move my seat because they need it for someone else. This'll be the third time.

To me this disconnect epitomises the way the club views it's members and is the reason they fall so far behind

That's disappointing to hear, Des.

Though not surprising, unfortunately.

I wait for the time the Carlton Football Club shows a bit of faith in the fans. For so long we've handed over our hard earned for little in return. Want to charge premium rates? Deliver a premium product. On and off field.

Hard facts are we've won 2 finals in the past 13 years. Last decade was the first since the 1950s we didn't contest a Grand Final, let alone win one.

We've failed to adapt to the changing landscape of the game, we've failed to identify where it's going, and teams have built, contested, dropped, built and contested again in the same time as we've been mediocre at best.

Now, after all that what do loyal members get? You can be a part of the tribe, but you've got to give us more money. Again.

They just don't get it.

most of the clubs take members for granted generally. The Blues are as good as anyone in this respect.

Although to be fair, there are many members who have taken the club for granted because of its healthy success rate from the mid 60s to about 2000. Couple that success with some of the most magnificent champions to have played the game from our club, and it's fair to say that we members have been spoiled a touch.

Without wanting to go into too great a detail - I'll spare you all the diatribe - articles like these present more myth than reality.

I see them pop up occasionally in the British press as a sensationalist way of selling papers to those who'll feel hard done by by their side.

The Bundesliga does indeed operate on a slightly more selfless model than some other leagues, but lets not pretend they're not what they are: money making machines.

Interesting post. That is an interesting model at Borussia Dortmund.

One thing we can learn from that is the importance of fan engagement. They call their fan section the "Yellow wall" - why can't we call the Carlton one "The Blue Wall" - there has to be some way to reengage what we term the cheer squad...make it larger, make it more attractive to join. The Richmond one looks much larger - why?

Another idea - what about on the website - once or twice a week they do a story on an average Carlton supporter -photo of him/her with his kids/grand kids etc...maybe they hold a favourite Carlton momento up, quick interview..."it is a generational thing" etc.. this type of stuff makes you realise why it is important to join Carlton. They explain why they are members etc.

Some way Carlton has to reestablish itself and hopefully it can start with getting to 50,000 members. Winning the first four matches helps, so I hope Carlton has a good draw for the first four matches in particular.

BTW, there is some symmetry to that story as Borussia Dortmund is currently 13th on the Bundesliga table.

I understand what you say about taking sucess for granted although I'd argue that sucess is a reasonable expectation.

It's very disappointing, I joined and contributed through the spoons when most needed. In return I have a guy aggressively trying to sell me a financial policy.

Anyway, my midday deadline has past and I'm awaiting confirmation of being delisted.

One Love indeed.
I'd buy many memberships if this guy was involved with the club ;-)

I am doing the same thing. I have always had general admission but have got sick of having to upgrade to seats for big games and then sitting in the rafters.
I have gone for the members reserve and have opted for level 1. This is cheaper and the seats are pretty good. I have sat in these areas with friends.
You have to download a form from the CFC website and send it in with your preference. I was told to get them in early as you will be given first priority when seats come available.
