I remember Matthew Dickson tearing it up in the reserves for a while too - I thought he was going to go on to bigger, better things.

Those were the days hey? We all thought all of our youngsters were going to be champions.

Now we can't wait to cut 'em from the list

John O'Connell. New his brother so the connection made it all the more real.

Adrian Hickmott....starred for Geelong in the 95 GF....I was rapt when we got him....hard as nails and always gave his all.

Tommy Alvin....no comment necessary.

I had high hopes for Damien Lock in '98 for a dozen games or so.

Vinnie the Cat didn't produce the magic he showed us in the twos; neither did Mark Majerczak....big expectations!

What about Darren Ogier??

He had quite a mullet IIRC. Can't go past tough guys with mullets as hero types.

the jumper I bought especially for the 95 GF...became my good luck jumper...I got #9 on the back with Hicky's signature...it still hangs in my closet.

The good luck wore off after he left. :(

Another Blues News had a photo of Justin Madden shaking a 15 year old Matthew Allan's hand...not sure why.

I loved getting those newspapers. I wish I still had them.

Remember the one with Jeff Fenech on the cover?

I don't...or do I? That rings a very faint bell.

I do remember one with an article on Darren Lehman who had crossed from SA to play for Victoria, and his cricket club was to be Carlton.

Another had a feature on what players "jobs" were. Ratten was a gardener. Peter Doyle was a groundskeeper at Princes Park. Dean a sparky.

Kouta's favourite drink was fanta and his career ambition was to play 100 games for Carlton. He didn't have a car. James Cook's dislike was "fake people".

Laurie Angwin worked as a removalist and Karl Norman wanted to own a chemist when he retired from football.

After reading about all these players the memories flood back.
I would love to get a tape of that west coast game where Kernahan went off injured and that won us the game. Not being too hard on sticks but people forget how good Jakovich was in the early 90s.
Oliver was flower awesome and was a rare talent in that he was skinny but very strong.I think Jakovich was in shock on how good the number 3 was.The Castlemaine kid was the ultimate bush Coleman.

I thought Peter Doyle was going to be very good, he was a sublime kick, but he broke his leg and finished at Fitzroy.

Ronnie DeIulio was a favourite too - I remember how he became agood player in defence at some stage - I'm pretty sure he kept Farmer goalless one day when Farmer ws firing for the Dees.

I remember Lang too - there was a lot of agitation from my mates as to why he was left on the rookie list for so long.

I second the Andy Phillips vote - if injury hadn't had its evil way with him, he wouldn't be mentioned in a 'non-stars' thread at all. He was more than handy in any case, and would've gone on to much bigger things. It was a sad day when we lost Flipper.

Special mentions to Matty Penny and particularly Andrew Leoncelli as well. Both were unlucky not to get a go at the time, and I was pleased to see the latter kick on and show us we were hasty to discard him.
