Is he even eligible?

I think he might be too old

After the initial 44 man squad was selected by a panel of 9, the fans then voted for the final 22 by picking 7 defenders, 7 mids, 7 forwards and 1 ruck.

Was always then going to be a hype and popularity contest.

The selections were positional based so Wines actually missed out over only Ellis, Liberatore, Swallow, Treloar, Parker, Prestia and Heppell, not McDonald, Langdon etc. I'd still have him in, but it's probably not as glaring an omission when you see some of those names he was up against.

Personally Darling and Carlislie getting in over GC's Tom Lynch is a the most glaring popularity/hype vote. Carlislie on the verge of being dropped and played 2 good games. One on a depleted Collingwood backline and the other against the Bulldogs.

I don't think it's such a terrible team.

But yeah, it's just a bit of a wank.
Some of the first year players might turn out to be rubbish in a couple of years.

It's just a way to get more web hits and provide a new 'thing' to appeal to the corporate sector.
