When you get to SB's age, the 80's weren't all that long ago.

Yep, a team with zero injuries pushing for a top 4 position beating the team sitting in 13th and missing 6 of their starting 18 comes down to coaching.

There was a time not so long ago when there was nothing better than going to watch Carlton play when they were riddled with injuries.
It was backs to the wall stuff and you knew yhe youngster's would get in and have a go abd usually win.
Now they chuck in yhe towel play for free kicks abd generally make excuses as to they lost

Football journalism ... the only profession where substandard performance (unashamedly biased writing / commentary and uninformed questioning) becomes a badge of honour and actually helps increase media profile ... see Robinson and Stevens.

Interesting to see my old mate @michelangeloruc pipe up about press conferences becoming a "sideshow" and talking about defending old ways

That same @michelangeloruc was part of game entertainment, doing ice bucket challenge. Not in civvies mind you but in a lace up Port jumper

Now there's a sideshow if you've ever seen one!

I think mick has a very valid point regarding this. The strength ,fitness , physicality of our modern game blows away the game and players of yesteryear. The season is long and in many respects, is a war of attrition. Usually teams have injuries, they are a given, therefore you either are blessed with minimal injuries or you have to have the depth to cover them when they occur. But even great sides will struggle when they have significant key injuries. Add to this, the pressure that great depth puts on players already in the side, and you have a multifactorial reason why we failed ...port had virtually a full list to choose from

So now he's bagging a guy out for doing something for charity. Shows what a piece of shit he is.

Funny enough, he wasn't that bad when he only worked for the Hun. Getting your gob on TV is prelude to becoming an arse of the highest order.

When footy print "journos" make the transition to TV they get to live their childhood dreams and become part of the football landscape. They're as important as the players and coaches because they're on telly too!!!

Stevo is a 1st rate git.
Still not the issue.
Belittleing and engaging just drags MM and therefore our club, down to his crap level.
no good.
FWIW I bloody hate seeing the journos at the presser, and the whole way they do it now on 7.

Mm is completely fine with every other journo. I wonder why.

I thought he was very expansive and relaxed on Friday night. As he has been for the last 6 weeks.

Some people are just incapable of moving forward.

really, you think that?

With 10 top 10 picks on the list says it all

And you don't think we may have recruited the wrong players?

It's not the top 10 picks that are the issue really (it's only 9)

Murphy, Judd, Gibbs, Henderson, Yarran, Walker (at times) have all been worthy

McLean, Thomas (injured), Kruezer (injured) a questionable

Its our inability to pick when the choice is more complex. Highlighted by our continued reliance on 4-6 rookies every game

Crap excuses.
Have a look at the 5th placed team. 9 players this week who were Pick 70+ or rookie/pre-season selections.
The top team has 7.

Good coaching panels get the best out of the list at their disposal. They don't wait to acquire the best list.
Our senior and VFL teams had 12 scoring shots to the oppositions 40. We were uncompetitive.

Perhaps Blue Vain.......the point is, we find ourselves in a situation due to many poor decisions over a period of time....be it talent, the development of said talent, adminstration and the quality of choices produced - including coaching appointments.

The general finger pointing in either direction has done many circles

Who cares about reporters. Micks a joke to the media and mark stevens was taking the piss out of him. Stevens showed him no respect.

So we get pick 6 or 7 this season, Next season we get about the same.

Mick will deliver us some good draft picks and the next coach will take us to the finals. We can all sit back and thank Mick for getting us those draft picks and call it a successful appointment. Value for money.

You are right - list hasn't changed much......while every other team's has

First it was Sam Lane, then it was Lingy, and now its Stevo.
Notice the trend ?
7 has settled on an Agenda of 'Grumpy Mick goes bananas'
and push the story about the bad treatment of their journos by him
because it keeps them in the news between games.
Watch Mr 'Say that again' Luke Darcy have a crack at Mick on Talking Footy tonight to keep the story rolling.
Rucci and even Fat Robbo see it for what it is. A Ch 7 pushed agenda against him!!!
Joke of a network!!
