What were the carlton players doing in the last 70 seconds when they gained possession in the back pocket and were 6 points down?
Were we milking the clock or was I seeing things?
I was there, up on level 3. Was hit with texts from mates watching on tv asking what on earth we were doing. We had nothing...no space, no run, no targets. You could tell Zac was desperately looking for a way out, but it just wasn't there.
I knew 5 mins into the last we were gone. One rotation, and well and truly spent.
I was on level 3 too, totally agree with your comments. Sometimes you have to be there to get the full picture.
thats because we switched play to the other side when it was kicked to Touhey.
Most of our players were on the other wing.
Cats beat us in the end because they had an open centre corridor, with 2/3 of our team on the wings and in the pockets
Thats how MM teams play. Conservative boundary line play. rarely going through the middle corridor.
And obviously thats how you counter the MM game plan and structures - through the middle.
That was the main reason that we lost. The other was superior cats leadership and self belief.
The cats dont win the close ones for NO reason
And we dont lose the close ones for NO reason
Umpires had very little to do with the end result
(while watching the game I turned to a friend of mine, with about 8 minutes to go and said "It looks like we may win but watch what we do in these dying minutes and watch what the cats do"
