By that definition, procuring the services of Everitt was a masterstroke by Malthouse.

Ok the board is crap
The list is full of rubbish
The recruiters are crap
But correct me if Im wrong it is tge coaches job to train and drill what he has to give them the best chance of winning
Surely hugging the boundary on a ground that is as wide as it is long isnt the best way of winning
Some one explain that

Interesting comments from Alan Richardson

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-07-13/n ... for-saints

Quote:
ST KILDA won't take any shortcuts in its rebuild, with coach Alan Richardson confirming the cellar-dwelling Saints are unlikely to consider recruiting free agents for at least "a couple of years".

The Saints, who against North Melbourne on Saturday slumped to their 11th consecutive loss, are committed to a long-term regeneration of their list via the draft, Richardson said on The Sunday Footy Show.

"Philosophically, we won't look at free agency for a couple of years; we'll be going to the draft," he said.

"We think that the model that we've decided to go down is the right way and that is to get in young players, to be patient, to make sure that we get games into these young players.

Did Mick think things through when he decided to go down the free agent path?

We bemoan the lack of talent but MM gave up an earlyish pick via his recruitment of Thomas - preventing us from bringing extra young talent in! WTF was he thinking with the Thomas recruitment?

We were told these list management blunders would stop once Ratten was gone!

Richo blabbed on about an inexperienced team in his post match presser. 6 30+ yr olds and only 2 teenagers yesterday. Man is as deluded as us.

A club serious about rebuilding doesn't recruit Thomas... and doesn't sign Gibbs for 5 years

Different season... some off field personnel changes... same shit club

Thomas I agree probably sent the wrong message. But Gibbs is one to build the midfield around.

Gibbs is a B grader at best at Carlton... at a club with a better midfield he may be B+

Building a midfield around a B grader is a recipe for 'ongoing' disaster

Carlton can win a flag within the next 5 years.

Yep. I know we're up against the GCS and THE GWS arm chair rides, and well run clubs like Cats Hawks and Swans.
But IF we get it right we get it right.
Change 12 players on our list, recruit 3-4 stars and we're in with a chance.

That's how it goes....I hope it goes our way; that's all.

Gibbs has been sensational the last few weeks ... probably the best player in our team on form.

Bottom out whilst GC and GWS dominate. All those teams building now won't be able to compete with GC and GWS. Be ready to pounce when GC and GWS start to hit reality.

Agree, Gibbs has been good but he's not someone to build a midfield around. Not that type and not that level. As our 3rd or 4th mid he would do very well.

You don't bottom out. That's a major cultural issue. Simply you go back to basics from one and start bringing in young talent. It's a long haul but the longer we wait to start the longer it will take.

I think we have different interpretations of bottom out. I didn't mean we should deliberately lose games. We're naturally bottoming out because we're no good. I want us to embrace that, get are act together and start building again.
