Reminds me when Michael Voss stopped playing. Why do people think great player = great coach? Being coach is so different to playing.

Agree. Might be good, might not. Everyone makes judgements based on their perception looking in from the outside.

Who really knows. He's just another ex-player with no experience.

Yet on the flip side you have a 'Brendan Bolton' type with 7 years experience as a state league head coach, and 4 years as an AFL assistant that up until 5 weeks ago 99% of supporters would have never heard of.

Experience and knowledge over media profile thanks.

It'd be reason to hope if he enticed Lingy for eg:

Can't see Ling wanting to come near us after the year we're having.

But then again everyone said that Vossy was the next big thing before he actually coached a season.
Maybe Ling will be a flop anyway

Has a redhead ever coached a flag?

Baldock maybe?

There are a lot of great players who were great coaches - Ron Barassi, Leigh Mathews, David Parkin, Paul Roos, John Longmire and many more. Ling has football intelligence and can pick up what others can't see. He is a great leader and will be able to build a team that follows his direction. He is not long out of the game. He understand what is required to win premierships. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Tony Shaw and Tim Watson were great coaches straight out of the game too. This is a good idea.

Lings appeal (apart from his good looks and animal magnetism) is most of his comments aren't just about who's playing well and "wow look at Cyril go".

He's usually saying what it is that the team that's getting beaten need to do to get back in the game.

Quite often he'll knock high profile players, not strongly, but he does it. From what I recall anyway.

oh my Doc,
I can't believe you have to ask that!!

Quality person..footy smarts..don't forget I was thinking about Ling under mentorship from MM..not just straight in. In that way, you can always bail if it aint looking good, or said apprentice finds the coaching game is not a good fit.
I would take Vossy in that role too. He impresses me as a commentator, and maybe would be fantastic second time around, and, after a couple of years mentoring.
For me it's all about MM's willingness to pass on skills, for the greater good of our club.

I surfed jan juc and saw him out there, asked if he was gonna coach. He said no chance, likes his hair too much. Fears baldness.

So ... here we are.

We wave each week as teams go past us. This week it was the Tigers and the Dogs. If we lose to the Saints we won't have too much further to fall.

Jeremy Laidler continues to play good football and hold down a position for the best team in the competition (Has he been out of their side at all year?). Well ... wonders never cease ... he couldn't get a game under Dr Strangelove.

Eddie Betts keeps doing what Eddie does ... Adelaide are very happy with what they got for the money and why shouldn't they be ... hes been a star. (We easily could have kept him by matching Adelaide's price ... thats all we had to do ... but the Super Duper coach wanted Thomas).

Each week we see teams run in numbers ... always 3 or 4 player backing up ... meanwhile we run in ones and twos ... and even then there is no coordination between the players ... one has to wonder if they even practice as a team.

Then there is that crazy stop start football ... I can't even talk about it without feeling sick.

A coaching panel ... that to say the least is pedestrian ... I see the Super Duper coach last week was quoting Barker ... oh boy!

A match committee that has double standards at the selection panel ... !!!! Do they actually watch the Carlton games?

One crazy decision after another ... we all hold our breath and wait for the next installment of keystone cops.

Thinking back ... we went from last to 5th in 3 years ... now we are back where we started.

But though all the doom and gloom ... we have one thing we can hang our hats on ... one shining light ... one pure thought ... At least we have the Super Duper Coach.

Give him a 5 year extension!

Mick was on pre game Saturday night to discuss Robbo's 'Mick should retire' article. Ling who spoke as if he agreed with Robbo, asked Mick 'why are you coaching if you hate the game?'. Mick said to him something along the lines of 'I don't remember you being @ the Peter Mac breakfast' - in other words you're taking my comments out of context & are wrong.

Does anyone even know what question mick was responding to when he said 'if I wasn't coaching I'd hate the game'?

And considering he said if he wasn't coaching he'd hate the game, given he is coaching - that's obviously not the case.

Ah!

Cheers.

Yes, I don't understand the hullabaloo over it either. I've heard all and sundry complain about the game non-stop since 2006.

How are MM's comments any worse than anyone elses?

Just on Voss, I think he's harshly judged, had Brisbane playing well considering their list when he got dumped. Gone backwards without him, I hope he isn't lost to the media for good.

One more year of Mick then bye bye

Apparently it's a bad look for the game having a coach criticise the game.

However, personally I think Brad Scott's actions were a far worse look.

Can you imagine if Mick did that? Or if Mick did what Buckley did to Witts last week? He'd be lynch mobbed.
