And i agree Dannyboy

This year will be a real test proper draft selections chance to change the clubs fortunes on the field show the supporters that we are on a forward track ..This Year DP will be under a lot more scrutiny i have given him more leeway with what he inherited but that will be less of a factor now and i do want to see him showing a positive improvement going into 2006 and beyond.

as for optus, we all loved it (I know i did, hell why do you think i adopted the gjost of optus Oval) but it was dead.

yes the league buried it.

So did the media.

television

and most importantly, the public. It was was a money spinner.

As for homeground where was that in 2001 etc. We lost as many games there as anywhere.

The point of JE was that he spent more than we had

He diminished our membership (no growth compared to other clubs, Optus did not help with this either)

We lost the kids - just go to an auskick clinic once upon a time there were as many carlton juimpers as Essendon* or Collingwood (well almost) and far more than St Kilda - not any more.

He cheated.

Yes th AFL had an agenda and so did JE and that was just as stupid as the AFL's. John built his popularity around being seen as 'man' enough to take on the AFL.

He lost the plot

and we almost lost everything.

Great post Danny. Agree with every word.

To argue the club's broke beacuse of high salaries to footballers makes little sense to the likes of me.

Is the way of the internet geeks.

Make up shit then run away.

If other internet geeks follow, then you are right!

If not...change subject.

I know you pride yourself on being intelligent verbs but...
What is the extra money a club can pay for marketing over and above the salary cap if it needs to?
Also how come we paid around 7 million in TSC when the ceiling was around 700 k less than that???

Ps we didnt break the salary cap rules....

Can you explain that???

I know i can.. but i want to hear it from you...

/nah i asked u to explain how we ended up being wooden spooners but spent the fifth most amount in salaries of all the clubs if everyone is paying the same...

Just try to fit 'Veterans list' , 'Kouta' , 'marketing componment' and 'tool option for salary cap relief' in your well thought out answer...

Perhaps you could give us the complete list of all the AFL clubs' salary spending - including vet and marketing allowances - so we could all see for ourselves. In other words - source please. And which wooden spoon are we talking about?

verbs why are you being such a smart arse. Seriously, the only point Synbad is making is that because of additional payments that are allowed under the salary cap rules -- whether it be because of marketing or veteren payments -- the club was maxing out and at the top end of player payments. As for the $1 million contract Kouta is on, I haven't seen him, his manager or anyone deny the fact that he was on contract in that vicinity. If you guys seriously think that paying one guy around 20% of total player payments is healthy for the club and doesn't lead to resentment within the playing group and skew everyone's perspective as to what they're worth you're mistaken. Noone enjoys these pointless posts, where the only thing you're trying to achieve is to get under other posters' skins. I also thought the comments you directed to Sandramd were appalling. Grow up. And rather than use emoticons and "HA HA", if you have a serious point to make, then make it.

Are you serious?

If all clubs have the same salary caps and the same total player payment levels, how can we be going broke because we have to pay more to Kouta than other clubs are paying to their players?

Are we rorting the system, paying over and above our allocated payment levels, and thus sending our club broke...???

Deary me...it's crap posts like this and others which bring up such woeful, misinformed tripe which make me go "HAHAHAHAHA" ... do you even think before you post??????

Come on...football salaries have ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT ON THE CLUBS' BOTTOM LINE!!!

If you can't understand this, why post ???, just go post in "Talking Stuff"!!!
