McKay says issues been going on for over a year. Yet last Septmeber we signed him up for two years.
Someone please explain the thinking behind this??

I'm not sure if this is a serious question? But anyway here goes: our crack List Management committee thought they would outsmart the WA teams, who for five seconds half way through last year entertained the thought of signing Bootsma. When the brains trust got wind of this they hatched a cunning plan whereby they signed Bootsma to a two year extension, apparently on the premise that we could send him over via trade rather than suffer the indignity of releasing a 1st rd pick for nothing at the expiration of his rookie contract. And as we now know from Kreuzer talks at board level - avoiding embarrassment seems to be the overriding basis for any major decision at Carlton. Bless.
Of course, once the Eagles and Dockers had a good look at Bootsma (given today's news - probably a look at a lot more of Bootsma than we knew at the time) they quickly worked out that not only were they uninterested in signing him, but they were sure as sh*t not interested in paying for the privilege.
These are the sorts of excellent decisions that are made when the bloke responsible for the pick (ie recruitment) also sits on the committee which makes decisions of this nature. I mean - who needs a dedicated list manager when the best minds at your club are able to deliver these kinds of results. My god.
