..missing Judd and krooz and it shows, and Curnow as well.... still a fair amount of improvement to come into the side, and some nder done players that will be much stronger in second half of year, hendo and dt primarily..

Went in thinking that if the rain holds off, we're probably a tall short down back, and would have to kick 20+ to be a chance. Won by sticking to our game plan, and kept a very good forward line to 10 goals. 4 points and progress in the game plan, rather than winning because we throw the game plan out the window at 3/4 time again.

Rowe was my BOG. Smashed Jenkins after he was the difference last week. Starting to see him create more too. That deliberate OOB was right in front of me. Complete bullshit.

Rapt with Thomas' game. His workrate is exceptional, as is his positioning on field. Murph could learn a few things from him about how he deals with taggers.

a close game between two ordinary teams that were so tentative in going forward that I can't see either us or the Crows getting to the finals, but never the less a win was to be savioured, especially as I sat with a friend's Carlton supporting grandchild who was so exuberant after the win, it made me remember my youth when winning a game was 'almost a matter of life or death'!

When has Thomas ever been tagged?

I don't think anyone in our team could deal with a tagger as well as Murphy. Judd maybe. Gibbs disappeared in the one game he got tagged. Simpson a few years back got shut out of games when it was all the rage to tag him and shut him out of games. Yaz got tagged out of games off halfback. Opposition haven't bothered with anyone else.
That is not to say that Murphy cannot improve in this area but he is making great inroads. The running he does is MASSIVE and the beating he cops in the packs is more than any player in our team. He takes it for the team.

Whichever way you look at it, with Armfield on Dangerfield, and Everitt on Sloane, it meant that Murphy could slip free at crucial stages in the last half.

It was refreshing to see us actually win a few centre clearances with this match ups, in particular over the past few years Sloane had strode through our midfield like some sort of Collossus, it was good to see him actually have to match it against us with someone of his own size.

Well done Everitt and well done Mick.

No team can get by with only one or sometimes two quality mids.

Murph getting a heavy tag SHOULD allow others to step up and dominate, but we haven't got there yet.

Daniel Kerr could barely get a kick after Cousins and Judd got replaced with Priddis and Schuey.

Talk about the Pies kids all you like but I think it the Pendlebury, Swann, Beams, Ball combination that makes them a top 4 threat.

We are one possibly two quality mids short of being a real threat.

Two average teams that kept turning it over.

But I'll take the win, especially as we could have so easily gone to water and raised the white flag when Adelaide closed the gap at the end of the third quarter.

Curnow before he broke his leg was starting to look like in his prime carrots. Throw in Judd for a year or two and hope like hell Crisps can make the grade. Even learning everitt can function in a negating role has paid off huge with our injuries.

we're not too bad at all from a list perspective if players like rowe and casboult keep improving on the kpd & kpf side of things.

+1

Quite a few players struggled yesterday but they never stopped trying.

Both teams were out on their feet mid-way through the 3rd.

I reckon MM only uses taggers when he doesn't have all the on-ballers he needs.

If we had 3 or 4 quality mids we might not have a tagger at all.

Rowe is a good example of leaving someone in the same role and letting them improve that role week by week.

Too much emphasis on 'versatility' sometimes.

Great game for the kids' first experience at the G. I could see a llot of negatives coz I was looking for them.

One thing I accept these days is that every footy team makees ample mistakes oover 100 minutes of footy.
Carlton are not alone. Have a look at the in form aadelaide team. They were stifled by pressurre but were also their worst enemy at tiimes.

Great to get the 4 points.

The fist tthing I noticed throughout the game was our structures were fantastic thouughout the game.
We gang tackled and had numbers at the right spots.
When Jacobs was up against Casboult in the ruck, the Crows got 5 clraeances in a row...3 goals.
I think Warnock was so important in winning the ruck and giving our guys first use, and curbing the Jacobs Dangerfirld coombo.
I dont think Jacobs was the winner of that duel regardless of his disposal stats.

Murphy ran his guts out. Ran both ways and was a class act when he had th ball. He helped his team mates, and I notice this goes unnoticed here on TC.
I thought Hendo was the weakest link, but he ran heaps of kms and opened up the foorwardline for Waite and Caboult to take the high ball: effective.

Dont get me wrong, it looked like 2 avearge teams playing, but the 4 points was there for the taking despiite Blues looking the better tteam on the night.

Thomas is struggling and cant hit top speed. That is obvious. But he did some classy things last night in the 2nd half. Pass. Than goodness.

The 3 new recruits were fantastic.
Menzel and Yarran amazing.
All our talls stood up and I'm sure Hendo played a role. He was kickiing them from anywhere before the game started.

If I wasnt with the kids and with badder companyy I think I would have belted a few Carlton supportes behind me bagging Simmo, Murphy and Gibbs biig time.
Have a @#$%&! look at what is going on and drop your preconceived ideas of what happens or is going to happen. All of you.

Footy is a tough business and the tough get over the line. Congrats Blue boys. Thanks for the win.

Judd Curnow Cripps Bell and Kreuzer will make an ennormous difference to this team.
Ellard and Tuohy did a couple of good thiings but overall were not very good.

Pressure for spots.
Next week we could be 5-5 after starting at 4-0. Gotta be happy about that.

We are building up not falling away.

Neither can I. Maybe you had to be at the ground to see the work he was putting in. He's had a really solid month of football and worked his guts out last night without having as much impact in getting the ball. That will happen sometimes.

No need to give Murph 3 votes, but no need the vitriol either. If you were at the ground and are going to belt him for that game then it would suggest you're pretty keen on belting him as a starting point going in to any match.

not even mate. On tele you could see his work rate, the commentators were noticing his run, he blew up his tag a few times. He played a team role last night and released simpson & gibbs.

Once we get Curnow, or Bell or robbo or Carrots back and we have another inside mid to win some hard ball, plus Judd who'll probably get a free run at it, we'll be pretty good through the middle.

And we'll need to be. We have one horrible freaking run home against some of the cream.

no vitriol... the conversation on murphy was on the back of a join the dots sequence...you need to follow how it got there.....
btw,,, murphy has never handled the tag.....he used to be playing in the shadows of judds attention... its no accident hes not the player he used to be with judds decline..
wont be long before he gets back to shine more with the attention off him and on daisy as daisy blows the cobwebs off his game....
can be very useful can murph as second fiddle..

but there is no vitriol... it all gets back to the kind of 'idolatry' people have.. where u cannot criticise some of our stars... similar to the richmond syndrome.
effes and surrey plus OTHERS have bagged the crap out of daisy this year but dont like attention on anybody else.. even though its daisy that has had the least prep work or this season of anybody on our list bar the hapless carrazzo..

so how about some perspective going the other way???
