I think the slow play was an MM strategy to take the wind out of Crows fast transitions. It worked. We got into trouble when we tired and they got more space in the second half. Sometimes you have to play ugly to win.

Pleased we toughed it out but boy oh boy are we carrying some passengers.

Hendo has had nil impact for a few weeks now. Certainly Talia is a very good backman but who was the StK unknown that he lowered his colours to?

Walker is having a shocking year. Sh#t house game today again. What do we do with him. Move him forward? The wing? Cramer street?

Waite at 31 and for all his faults still our best key forward. Indictment on the club.

Finally Jacobs impressed for the Crows

Pros:

Guts it out. Nice to win again in a close game.
Everitt, Docherty and Menzel. Great to see new players among our best.
Simmo as usual.
Yarran again.
Rowe and White were very good.
Makes a difference when Waite's back in the team, although he looks really tender. Not sure how many games we'll get out of him this year with the way his back is.
Probably best game we've got from Thomas.
Like having Armfield in the team.

Cons:

Not quite sure how Adelaide got back in the game. Seemed to kick a lot of easy goals in a hurry. Couple of goals gifted to Betts.
Hendo continues to struggle. Pity we don't have the key forwards so we can ease him back into full fitness playing in defence.
Casboult telegraphs what he's doing when he marks then goes on a slow arc on to his right foot. 2 costly smothers against him.
Buckley's injury.

Anyone else notice Eddie tearing up after greeting the Carlton players at the end? He spent a long time with them . Always be a Carlton man . I heard he and the club tried to get his sick dad to come to Melbourne , but he wouldn't . So Eddie went back to Adelaide to be with him.

Didn't expect to come on here and see Murphy getting bagged for his game. I thought he was great. Kerridge is a good player, given the sole job of stopping Murphy, but Murph ran him into the ground. Covered a lot of km's, got a decent amount of the ball, used it well. Not sure what more we could've expected. He clearly won that matchup. If he didn't see much of the footy in the last 5-10mins I'm happy to forgive him because it's obvious he was working harder than most others during the 110 minutes preceding that. Tackle count was low in general and isn't a fair reflection of a players defensive efforts. Kerridge got a goal early, but from that moment on Murphy worked hard and went with him defensively. He ran both ways, and ran harder than his opponent all day.

I'd love to see murphy's gps figures ran himself into the ground. third quarter he was exceptional. Can't see lots on TV. He worked as hard as he could. Didn't play well and Kerridge did his job but that's as hard as I've seen Murphy work defensively. At the ground you could see his work rate.

All I you want as a supporter is a 4 quarter effort and a team that plays to its ability. We got that today

Yeah...Betts was rubbish.

If he played like that every week he'd only end up with 88 goals for the year.

He got what? less than ten possessions?
He won't always get HTB for the Touhy thing. In replay is shows him holding Touhy before Touhy took possession but got a free for HTB when Touhy never really had it. No wonder he played on. He probably thought the free was to him for HTM.
Yazz and Walker dropped that mark they both went for and it fell into Bett's hands. That won't happen every week.
he got that crumbing goal when he went the other side of the pack to Touhy and I can't remember the other one.
He did his job for them on the scoreboard but in terms of possessions, tackles and so on, he was held on the day.
You get what you get with Betts. Some days he'll kick 4-0 like yesterday and some days he'll take mark of the day and kick 1-3.
Thomas started slowly but had a pretty good game after quartet time when he started to move up and down the ground. His kicking may never be as good but his endeavour is great. I'm happy with the way things turned out. Thomas will play a lot of footy for us.

6 weeks ago we we were saying " that's it. All I want now is guts and effort and to see the kids improve." I Can't see the game but it appears that for most of the past 6 weeks what we have seen is guts and effort and improving kids. Must be the hashtag....

Don't bother. Have you not read this thread? We are rubbish. We didn't deserve to win and have no good players. mM is rubbish. Daisy is rubbish. Hendo, despite no pre season, is hopeless. The recruiting success with Menzel, Buckley etc was pure fluke. Docherty landed in our laps. We should just hand the keys back. Not on your life should a supporter just enjoy the win.

I didn't think Murphy could do anymore. Worked hard and just ran himself into the ground. IMO his last 4-5 weeks have been very good. I also believe that the hard tag on Murphy has allowed Gibbs to get free and play well.

Thanks goodness for Simmo. What a star. Everitt was good as was Yarran and Thomas had his best game in Blue.

MM has to take some credit. The way he is slowly getting us to play a more finals type defensive style is working and he knows how to give us the best chance of a win by match ups and having specific role players.

Personally, I think Adelaide were ordinary but what was good is we had a red hot go for 4 quarters and that is all we can ask. If we can keep building on that, keep adding new talent, as a club we will turn around. Not going to be easy but there is some positive signs.

Woeful first half of footy by both teams.
Carlton supporters showed a lot more class than Collingwood with our treatment of Betts.
Love Menzel.

We are on a roll 4 wins from the last 5 games. Bring on September.

Have a look at our fixture, I don't like the look of it

I was being sarcastic.

The four quarter effort was very pleasing, I haven't seen that by a Carlton side for a very long time.

Mick has them playing committed footy. I dare say his message of 'no passengers' is slowly but surely setting in.

+1

Quite a few players struggled yesterday but they never stopped trying.
