The elite mids shrug off tags and impact when it counts
That's what makes them elite

I'm a Murphy fan
Won the Coaches award which IMO is much more meaningful and accurate than Brownlow

But he's nowhere near that form right now

Just calling it as I see it

As skipper he didn't impact late when it was in the line
He's not elite right now

Think I forgt to mention Doc earlier?
What a great get he is
Keeps running
Hard too
And classy

I can just see Mick saying to the recruiters "these are the players we need to recruit, is it THAT hard?"

PROS:
Menzel fantastic
Docherty growing with each game
Daisy stepped up late
Rowe & white holding their own
Menzel
Buckley prior to injury
Yarran very consistent
Gibbs another solid midfield game
Menzel
Everitt
Team desperation
Effort
Straighter kicking for goal
Menzel
Menzel

Cons:
Garlett (on for 5 minutes, managed a game high in squibs)
Casboult
Hendo well manned
Waite's lack of leadership
Bottom 4 level footskills
Ellard
Adelaide more scoring shots and inside 50's

Casboult had one howler when he tried to get a quick kick on to Walker on his own. He may have had a handball partially smothered as well. His goal from 55 was excellent. Without it, we lose. His backup ruck work was OK. He wasn't our worst.
I think you're being too easy n Gibbs. IMO it was his worst game for weeks.
How was Waite lacking in leadership? Sorry. You may well be right but I can't see how you get that out of this game. Did he get reported again? Did he have a stupid 50 metre against? Did he not encourage his team mates? What? Stubbing the ground isn't lacking leadership, it's just something that happens occasionally.

Who was on Betts?

Zac

Bucks

All has their time on him

Betts had very little of it but in true Betts style made the most of it.
Doesn't mean his opponent was beaten.
I remember once Didak got 5 goals in a game when Houlihan was on him and TC went into meltdown saying how usless Houla was, soft, no guts etc etc.
Dids got 5 kicks for the game. Kicked at least two impossible ones. Got well beaten, really. As much as Dids in full flight was ever beaten on the night.

Betts was a bit like that tonight. He's never really beaten. I applauded him for goin and for looking after his future but I realized tonight i have no love left for him.

I can't imagine they didn't know him.
I didn't but he is such a big part of the club's history.
I imagine he would have been seen a bit at the club as well.

Sure is.

But those marks were very important.

Menzel is something special and he got excellent delivery tonight. He's also reaping the benefits of having three other options in the forward line.

He was beaten no doubt, but some of his tapwork in the first half was sublime.

Plus, I reckon his second efforts to find a target out of a stoppage once the ball has hit the ground has improved immensely this year. Just didn't have his best game against a ruckman with a point to prove.

They were probably told what sort of player to look for.

What was that "Betts creative genius" tripe?

The ball fell through Yarrans hands, landed in Eddies and he snapped a goal.

That was a wind-up surely.

Got the distinct impression the commentators were trolling.

We gutsed it out, out worked a good team and got the 4 points, and move onto the lions next week.

There was much more good happening today than bad. Not sure why the focus on murphy's tackling in a winning side is coming under scrutiny. His disposal and composure -- especially under pressure -- was excellent tonight. He seemed to steady us when we needed it. Gibbs was alright too.

Casboult, Docherty, Everitt, Rowe, White were all in our best. Daisy was ok.

Bucks looks like he'll miss some time with a hammy. The guys were consoling after the song and he looked pretty bummed. Hopefully it's not a proper 6wk+ hammy tear, but it didn't look good.

We're within smelling distance of the 8 and we're still a bit away from our best football and our strongest 22. Cup is half full.
