so my thinking is simple (yes, yes, I know isn't it always....)

6 new blokes to step up.

2 from the draft (I'm thinking 2 from 4) to play say 14 games each.

then saddo

plus the preseason draft bloke - yes even Maclaren would play a lot games in this side

then 2 from Russell, Hartlett, Raso, Setanta, Blackwell.

So if this could happen
we'd have say

Saddo T-Bird Carrots
Russell Hartlett Lappo
Walker Bentick Simmo
Waite Lance Fisher
Betts Fev Murphy

French Kouta Stevo

Setanta, McLaren, Blackers, New guy (midfielder).

this is an example - I am not saying Hartlett will hold down CHB, I am not saying Setanta is a certainty etc. I am using their names to highlight that we must try and lift that bottom six dramatically this year or it will be another wind tunnel to dispair!

The point I'm trying to make is that if we can dramatically improve our bottom six with the draft/growth etc...

Then we may begin to show signs of real improvement.

go for say 4 next year,

that makes 10 changes in two years - the emphasis on at least 4 of these being A graders (potentially) and we are on the way back.

a bit ambitious i feel!
Unlikely to have Hartlett and Russell both playing regularly. I would be happy if 1 of these guys played a dozen good games. they are both young and need time. V. tough ask to go straight to CHB in your first senior year.

Not convinced on Bentick yet, despite others getting excited. Still seems a bit of a Jimmy Plunkett to me - 40ish games and 10 v.good games.

where was:
Scotland - his last half of season justifies his place in our best team.
mcGrath - Honest but not spectacular, rarely beaten. V.handy player Teague - still worth a spot, would make aterrific back pocket on their 3rd best forward. we need his hardness amd endevour.
Wiggo to be the big improver - controversial i know but a gut feeling

How about 38 to step up!!!

as a group the players need to rediscover the edge they had in the Wizard Cup. I know it's only a pre-season comp but a lot more players than usual were performing closer to their best capabilities. Rather than waiting for Kouta to do it all, Fev to kick all the goals or even the youngest members to suddenly get 100% better - I think it has to be a gradual improvement across the board.

Here's hoping ...

I am not counting much on our second year players except for improvement.

providing they stay on the list we really do need bentick[consistency], livo, sporn, wiggo, simmo[consistency], walker[confidence & consistency], davies [consistency], deluca, bryan to step it up..

How about.....14 games 10 great ones  Agree, still has a long way to go but is looking like a footballer, something we have lacked seriously for 4 years.

Agree with DB, players won't play those positions every week/all game, but it does show at least a little depth for the 18 spots on the ground.

Saddington is just another small piece of relief for a Lance of Lappin. We're going down the right path, improving from the bottom while retaining the better players.

2 - 3 years before we see serious sept action.

So we have re-signed Lance to be defensive sweeper?....expensive defensive sweeper and he will want to get a bit fitter..going to be a lot of sweeping to do...

Well my 1000th post won't be to memorable, like any of them are. Well here goes:

Whitnall can't be played in defence in 2006, we traded for Saddington for that reason. He is a vital cog in my finals aspiring team in 2006, and that cog is inside the F50 kicking goals, giving directions, taking marks and takign the oppositions 2nd best defender.

PS: EB now its getting scary

Danny with the 5 players that have already gone and the likely hood that Campo and Lappin also gone . We may get our wish and see these kids play as DP will have no choice other than pick them

I'd be very excited if at least 3 quarters of last years draftees were given sufficient game time next year as well as Murphy and one or two others from this draft.

That's all we want...hope for the future.
