..if he gets full fitness back, I'd still tag him out of the three.. ..let him off the leash for five minutes and he will still rip you apart at the stoppages, he still plays with that dynamic energy which is infectious..

Sounds like I'm in the minority but I still rate him highly. I believe this year has shown our glaring weaknesses with him out of the side.

IMO he has carried us for the best part of 4-5 years and that has been underestimated. Sometimes when players our out for a while we forget how good they are.

I hope he is fit enough to play next year and assist Murphy in bringing the next crop through. He has always been a team first player and I think he will do that.

..of course, a Judd in decline is still one of the better mids, if he can get full fitness and not sustain any recurring injuries he has a few years in him.. ..good years too, his inside game will be as strong as ever, and with better mids he will actually peg back some of the decline as well.. ..everyone plays better alongside good, united functioning team mates..

..and inside the stoppages, he is still one of the most ferocious clearance machines in the game, and he should still very much have that..

My thoughts exactly. He's not the flashy player he was in his early 20s but his inside work is as good as most and underrated. Issue has been defensively but given our current situation I still see him as tremendous value. To have him alongside Cripps, Menzel, Graham, Holman, Docherty, Buckley and some more kids this year has to be beneficial.

very good reasoning

Righto I'm back on my own bandwagon thanks to some recent posts. Keep Judd!

..regarding Judd, it's just about accepting a fair and reasonable contract.. .yearly... ..yearly he has already started doing and has said he is fine with.. ..now, what the new coin will be..?.. ..will be he cool about that?, it's been a long time that he earned anything 'as low' as 350/400.. ..and it's not as if he won't be connected with half the board by now..

Not worried about amount but it won't be anywhere near what he has been on previously. The key is will be a ONE year deal and as such doesn't lock us into anything past that.

Past 30 years of age NO ONE should on anything more than year to year.

Next year the list should centre around:

Murphy
Gibbs
Judd
Henderson
Yarran
Simpson
Curnow

Menzel
Cripps
Docherty
Buckley
Holman
Bell
Graham
Giles

The rest are up for grabs IMO.

I must be in the minority too. Maybe that should read the minority at TC.

Of course it depends on how much he costs.
Yes he is on the decline. He is not worth $500K given we are not playing for a flag.

I would normally counter with 'it will cost a young mid valuable game time' but seeing as there aren't any coming through - what the hell. I'm a bit apathetic about the whole Judd thing.

..if he were older maybe, but if the toll hasn't caught up with him yet he isn't that old.. ..plus the ugly truth is, fit,, he is one of, if not the best mid we have.. ...and yeah, not much midfield quality languishing in the two's.. ....unlike psych, i'd be a little concerned about the coin..

There's the problem - people actually think he's the best midfielder at Carlton. The board probably think it too. Shit - Ruffy Germinder probably only heard of him for the first time during last years' elimination final.

I wouldn't mind him on reduced coin. Still got a bit to offer.

And that's a major issue. I am all for playing the kids but the it's going to take us a minimum of 1-2 years to draft/recruit them. I'm apathetic about the whole club ATM but I'm trying to push on.

The club knows of your apathy Psych - and they will counter your apathy with something as ludicrous as offering Silvagni a seat on the board.

..him being the best is a fair argument, remember he like Murphy has had injury issues last two seasons.. ..people were ready to denigrate Murphy's ability at times over last two years, but who would be the current competition for honour of being our best mid..?.. ..murphy?, Gibbs, ????..

I abit in this camp....it will take a few years for the young guys recruited this year and next to come through so the older guys aren't really holding anyone back at the minute

Probably right but the more important question is how does our midfield rank against the top sides. A long long long way behind IMO and not a lot coming through.

..are you judging it by Judd's last two injury interrupted seasons..?.. ..gibbs until recently didn't harness his full potential in the middle, jury is out on whether he can sustain it yet, since he is unproven over time in the middle.. ..murphy is only playing well once again due to getting back to full fitness, no chance Judd could return to good form once he gets fully fit..?.. ..only last season people didn't rate Gibbs in the middle (some still don't), as early as this year Murphy was supposedly the worst captain of all time..

..i'm not saying Judd is the best, but if he gets back to full fitness a better argument can be made for either side.. ..if not the best, one of the best.. ..considering it's only two others that can be called real quality midfielders, Judd still being one of the best in our team isn't a stretch..
