We met over this move .. and we crossed swords. Met you ripping bloke....

but...

the club has taken away over the years and given precious little back to the grass roots.
The corporates seem to be given more and more.. whilst the rank and file supporter would be member less an less.
This club has no sense of context about what a club actually is.....

You cant take away social clubs/ suburban grounds/ training watching etc and replace that with $300 tickets to bithdays and $50 raffle tickets and not wonder why youre shrinking as a club.
you need to make all people feel important....
Whislt they have been working towards a premium brand .. theyre not actually a premium brand.
They wanted to create a club that feel premium... but it looks tatty

I never wanted to leave PP, and if we did it had to be a the MCG with the 8/3 split and the club establishing itself at the G with real conncetions .... that hasn't happened ... but that was also ten years ago, the club has had a long time to get itself sorted, and it hasn't ...

there was talks about the Southern Stand being updated to match the rest of the MCG, if that is true, then Carlton need to be front and Centre in this, and establish a foothold on it, so that what was once great can be re-created.

Imagine it, in 10 years time ... Collingwood v Carlton ... Collingwood has a great set up in the Ponsford Stand, Carlton with a Great set up in the Southern Stand ... Social Club vs Social Club ... at the moment, AFL is talking about two smaller clubs to have the Good Friday Game ... we keep going at the current rate we are, we will qualify!!

long hard roads to go, and can only hope the new prez has the vision and strength to make it all happen, otherwise we are going down the path of Melbourne!! Living off past success of decades past!!

Staying at Princes Park has less than nothing to do with the moribund state of the mentality at board level.

There is no reason whatsoever that a bright vibrant engaged club can't be based at PP but play games at the MCG, Docklands, or wherever.

sorry, perhaps you misunderstood what my intentions were ...

I agree with you, but for that to happen they have to re-create or give something of a similar nature for the fans to get around the club, enjoy the club etc.. which we had at PP ... the club hasn't done anything to replicate that, and if anything they have gone backwards in regards that aspect ...

there is no social club, there is no fan connection ... in every aspect of the club they are living off past greatness ... including the fans and their engagement ... the club is in a massive hole, for me, it feels like I am a consumer not a member, my interaction comes at a cost to me financially with regard to everything that involves the club .. buy this, buy that, pay this, pay that, $200 raffles etc.. $400 jumpers .... $800 memberships .... and for what ... a club that is going backwards, a club that appears to have very little passion for the club and next to know recongintion of fans accept lip service ...

My apologies, Scott, I did misread your post then.

I agree entirely.

brillant scotty and ya know what it feels to me that club the players dont care that its supporter base feels alienated and disinfranchised. Hopefully the boards admin will remember that its supporters who make the club and will be there all of their lives without us the club will die

Agreed totally with what is being said.
This disregard for the rank and file supporter explains the issues we are having with Membership numbers.

if u see players going to training on one of the few open days... theyre holding phones to their ears or listening to their ipods... dont even look at kids.

funny to watch ... players in a bubble like that... not wanting to be involved with yung members.. because they think theyre above that

you see.. everything we do is elitist and exclusive

The first tactic they use, is that they leave at least an hour after training, sometimes several hours later.

By then most of the fans have gone.

You would think that the players can stay a few minutes with the die hard fans that remain and sign a few things, and pose for a few photos.

but no ladies and gentlemen, out come the pretend phone calls on the mobile, the ear pieces int he ears, and its a quick dash to their cars.

I bet they all wished there was an underground car park at Visy.

Can't find anything on the HS website. New layout is crap.

I heard on SEN news that he is disenchanted with the direction of the Board. Anyone know anything? Is this another case (Williams the recruiter) of someone coming on board, having a look around and realising the stench that is there?

The YCPs ideas will be cleaning someones arse.
Thats just a way for the club to make young professionals feel theyre someway contributing.. at the same time grooming them for other coteries and collecting their money.
At the same time making the club look transparent and open..
why do they join?
They join because they wanna help.. because they enjoy the exclusivity of the facility... because they can socialise with other sameminded people.. because they feel they will make good connections for themselves.. and because they feel they are being groomed as tomorrows leaders.

Its all abit too exclusive around this club right now...

Agreed

One thing the club has done with the new facility, is where the players exit the training track is a no go area for supporters.

When they used to exit through the old players’ race, it was easy for kids to lean over & have a chat, get autographs etc. I used to tell people not to worry about waiting for family days to get autographs, just turn up to training instead.

There’s an intentional disconnect now.

Its interesting you mention that.

Spoke with an employee of the club the other day who expressed their frustration at the complete inability for the club to provide access to players for open training sessions, clinics, public appearances, and that its ingrained in the players upon joining the club how unnecessary it is for them to partake in it, that the club is far too old school in worrying about the "worst case scenario" in exposing players to these sorts of appearances, and are quick to kibosh any attempt that they deem "unnecessary".

Blamed your mate Shane-O as being the main offender in regards to that.
