There's nothing new in that article. Jake was obviously just asked to write something about Carlton.

With Rattens running style of play there was a big difference between MCG and Etihad. Now it doesn't matter so much. I'd still rather play the cats and hawks in the 'G though.

For the players, it's invaluable they experience the big stage of the 'G as much as possible. Also, the surface is better at the 'G on their bodies.

For the fans, I think Etihad is very unpopular, it's just that after 10 years you get used to it. Bit like having to go to that dodgy relative's for Christmas dinner, if you had a choice you'd say what the hell are we doing here? I think that more would be inclined to head to the 'G. We do have a fickle cohort (and I wonder what % of us have MCC membership?).

From the club perspective, we indeed need the best deal possible, and again getting 60+K to the hawks/cats at the 'G compared to 40+k at Etihad would be a no brainier to my mind.

I've never understood this. I only get to one or two games a year, so the venue is largely irrelevant as the game will be as much an event for me as it is a chance to cheer on the Blues.

I really like watching football at Etihad. You're closer to the action and it's closer to the city as well.

That said, I do love the MCG, and the walk from the CBD to the ground is one of sport's great traditions, but it's only the traditions and history that makes the MCG "better". By any rational assessment as a spectator, forgetting the results we may have achieved there, Etihad is a better venue.

Why does everyone hate on it so much?

Well.....for one, I don't agree that Etihad is a better venue.

Why?

I understand my once/twice-a-year attendance doesn't leave me best placed to judge, so tell me more...

I suspect its because we lose too many games there and have had quite a few injuries to key players at the ground

For mine, it's what Cretylus said, plus:
- if you live east of CBD its a bun fight to get a train from Southern after the game. I drove Saturday and paid $30 to be underneath.
- its bloody cold there in winter
- its not the MCC (blatant self-interest there!)
- no bars close by, just a bench in a walkway full of people to have a beer
- atmosphere just not the same compared to MCG. It's just too much concrete and no 'home' feel to it. Leave it to Essendon*, north, stkilda.

I'm with you, I love watching the footy at docklands.

You don't need a poncho, easy to get in and out (for me anyway) has a great atmosphere (put 30,000 in the G and see what atmosphere you get) and you get a great view of the ground (especially now that the keep the roof closed so no sun in eyes)

You still can't beat the atmosphere that we get our the blockbusters against richmond, collingwood & Essendon*, but we still have the MCG for that so it's a great compromise.

Because its a crap place to be...

1. small ground
2. questionable surface
3. Cleanskin stadium with re-badging for home clubs
4. Questionable security style- promotes dobbing in people..
5. Expensive food
6. Financially killing our Club
7. Cleanskin spruikers that do pre-match and mid match fluff talk
8. has no feel of a home ground
9. empty pub areas because we are not Eithad members
10. Depressing part of town....

is that enough?

so soul
sterile
arse end of town
that footbridge is crap
sitting up the top you are in the dark, you don't feel like you're actually 'part' of the game, like being at the movies
awful with the roof open
awful sitting indoors if the weather is nice also
half filled G' is better than a half filled Etihad

I don't mind it on level 1 or 2 though, if I'm trying to be positive.

I love the G except when I'm in the MCC Members with friends....then I have to tone it down...and it is boring there.
The outer is brilliant if you have good seats and the weather is beautiful.

I have no problem with the Dome (except for the cost of beer, spirits and wine, let alone water). I like thr Dome for the same reasons as you do camelboy. I probably see more games in Melbourne than you, having said that I only went to 6 last year in Melbourne.

When it rains....give me the Dome...and the walk to the station is brilliant.

AS for the blockbusters against Pies Tiggers and Essendrug...it is the G rain or sunshine or miss out completely....gotta be the G

Whilst I prefer the G I dont mind going to the Dome if Carlton is playing or the Australian One Day team is.

Yarran last week, Judd the week before, Kruezer knee, Murphy shoulder, Waite knee, Walker calf,

Gee I am sounding like an expert Ladies and Gentlemen

Only Brett Thornton didnt get injured at Etihad - your third all time favourite carlton champion next to Doull and Jezza

so now tell us who gets injured at the G

and then do the % per game played etc

or youre really are soundsing like tony shaw.... and mike sheahan... and robbo....

also work out games played this year at dome and at G
how many games have we won on each of how many games....

in other words give us some real facts.. not some chariots of the gods gibberish... youre seriously starting to sound like erich von donikian or whatever his name was...

thats such shoddy expertise there Cretylus...

Going nowhere on and off field.

The members and supporters have lost faith in the capacity of our board to do what is required to rectify our predicament.

MLG has his work cut out.

Acknowledge where you stand publicly, set a direction/strategy to move forward, publicise this to ensure accountability, recruit/employ the best staff and place them in the right positions with all club decisions to align with the strategy. #United

We can't even acknowledge that we are so far off the pace (by any measurement) it's not funny. We are not a power club, haven't been for years.

Where are we going and what are the board doing about it?
