I agree with you ... we made a great decision ... there are some that say coaches don't recruit ... but thats a load of crap ... coaches do everything ... they especially don't listen to recruiters appointed by the club.

Now Stkilda have a crappy side that managed to beat the Bombers tonight. We just need to make sure we bottom out and start our recruiting all over again.

The Super Duper coach won't let us down ... even tho he says all recruitment is in the hands of the recruiters ... I don't believe that for a minute ... SHREWD, cagey old coach he is.

So Ratten has no excuse .... he should have won a premiership and recruited far better. SHAME SHAME SHAME!

Go Micky Go

Yes, I'm certain "being coached by former Melbourne assistant and (forgotten the suburban team he coached...) Brett Ratten" was right up the top of Judd's wish list or criteria.

If you are certain, why did you post it?

Because for someone to assert with a presumably straight face that Brett Ratten being our senior coach was a or the decisive factor in Chris Judd coming to Carlton is positively absurd.

Mr Cheese please don't come on this forum and trott out "Daisy is good for memberships" .

It would have to be the most piss weak excuse of all time.

A mid 20 pick might be good about now. Daisy looks 48 years old, can't kick (unless it's to Mick in the change rooms) and lasts about 1.5 quarters.

He's awesome!!!

I think it a reality of the game. It wouldn't have been the decisive factor in acquiring him, least of all from the footy dept, but the guys in the office would've been pleased to get a known player in. Creates a bit of buzz, a bit of excitement.

Thomas has played 4 games for us, with a minimum of 84 more available to him over the life of this contract. How about we reserve judgement as to the merits of getting him/his impact until he's played a few more?

Assert? Who asserted anything, let alone anything as being decisive? Bzzzzzzz.

Million dollar Malthouse has delivered us Thomas on his watch. Fact. May they both writhe together in their king sized bed, sheeted in $100 bills.

"We are Rich", Dale and Michael laugh. "They are Carlton".

At no point have I said Ratten should have won a premiership. In fact, a couple days ago I posted that Ratts enjoyed the best years or potential output of this current generation Carlton list and took us as far as it could go (semi final in 2011. If Gibbs, Kruezer and Waite play we probably win).

Unfortunately he also presided over one of the more lax and shambolic recruiting programmes to bolster that list and ensure improvement and consolidation. He is to blame for the ills that cripple this list as he was at the helm when building it.

He had 5 years in charge, got us to a semi final, then took us over the edge of a cliff.

If Malthouse got 2008 vintage Chris Judd he'd not sit idly by and lead us down a path of inaction, ending in inglorious collapse.

He'd build a list around him capable of genuinely contending, I've no doubt. Or at least make a better attempt than Ratts did.

I agree Cheese ... some people say thats a Myth (with regards to falling off cliff) ... but I am with you. I mean it must be true ... everyone says it. I wonder why teams with worse playing lists are going past us ... hmmmm ... must also be a myth.

We just need another ten years under Dr Strangelove and we will be ok ... mark my words.

Malthouse could sell cheese to http://www.australiancheese.org and they'd eat it up.

Fellas, fellas, fellas...

I see there is no reasoning with you.

Part of me wants the Club to sack Mick tomorrow, appoint some new, young ideas coach you all so covet... Simply for the them to have the same issues we do now.

Then you can march on them as you do Malthouse.

At a cost of a third of what Strangelove is raking in, bring it on.

No, let's judge him from day ONE!

He's not some 17 year old kid, he's a mid 20's established footballer.

Right now he's busted. He'll produce nothing of value this season.

Next season is the part of the rebuild, so no value there.

Season following, still rebuilding, aiming for what , 10th?

60+ games later and we are still wandering around the middle and he's 30ish.

So, we have recruited this guy for our push for a top 8 finish in the last year of his contract?

Mr Cheese, I'm not sure MM has played this one all that well.

*sigh*

Even when going backwards to ultimately go forwards there's always room for good players, no matter their age.

I suppose all clubs who are struggling should immediately trade/delist any player with some sort of cache, whether it be on or off field.

I'm quite happy to have acquired Thomas. Furthermore, I'm more than confident he'll play good footy for us.

Currently he's played four matches in the navy blue. By virtue of this I'm prepared to delay issuing a judgment on him.

The biggest loss to our club at the moment is Alan Richardson.

He wouldn't work w MM. They had a fall out a long time ago which is a pity.

However, as I stated before I credit Richardson with a lot of the results achieved during Rattens time. Very smart coach and a fantastic people manager.

Also, at St Kilda he has been supported by some very smart list management and recruiting. They assessed where there list was at, made some hard decisions and in the end will benefit. Getting rid of McEvoy (giving Hickey development time as No1 ruck) and adding Billings, Dunstan, Acres, Bruce, Longer was impressive IMO.

We could learn a lot from their model.

Actually its Malthouse who wouldnt work with Richardson.
Richo knew nothing of the "falling out" they apparently had and would have remained as senior assistant.

Lets be honest. Mick wanted Wiley as his main man and so Richo was the collateral damage. The shame is MM wasnt open and honest about it.
Richardson is smart enough to know the machinations of the AFL assistants lot. His only disappointment was the inference that he was less than loyal to Malthouse at Collingwood.

Anyway, I'm sure he's happy with the opportunity he's been given. Good luck to him.
