We need to stop being myopic and get people who have vision and cunning strive for success. Sorely lacking and Teddy Hopkins nailed all the other KPI's.

What? We already had him??!

That's 3 for the Saints.... And we have Super Duper Mick

Yea ... but don't the Saints have better players than us? ... surely they do ... But they were tipped by everyone to finish last?
Have no fear ... we have gone for the legend ... The Super Duper coach himself. 1 Premiership in the last 18 year ... and building. Thats got to mean something.
Modern coaches like Clarkson, Hinkley and Richardson have nothing on Dr Strangelove. We went out and picked a real winner because we needed to readjust to all that damage Ratten did getting us from last to 5th in 3 years. Bottoming out just had to happen ... and the perfect coach stepped up. What a marvelous appointment ... what vision by the club and a special congratulations should go to all the supporters that stood up and clapped.

Go Tricky Micky ... never give up ... never surrender.

Very good article by Hopkins. Why oh why after going down the Pagan path did we feel the need to hire an old stubborn premiership coach and then a year later realise after he'd [REDACTED] it up we have to rebuild?

Nuts!

The reality is Malthouse or not we'd still have to rebuild. Our list is simply deficient in too many departments.

Is it as deficient as Stkilda's was a day ago or Port's 2 years ago?

Malthouse is costing the club millions of dollars.

He was brought in to get us to the top four and contest the flag. It's an epic fail, twice in a decade now. He and Pagan are no doubt laughing like mad men whilst rolling around in their beds filled with $100 notes, premiership cups and 30% winning ratios whilst coach of Carlton.

We all know an issue of ours isn't so much talent, but those oh so important intangibles: mentality, attitude and temperament.

I think our best footy is pretty good. We can be a talented side on our day. But the role of the opposition is to make sure we can't play our way... How we respond and react to that is our issue.

I doubt there a coach out there that could get us to top four.

Malthouse is so far down the list of people this torch and pitchfork wielding mob need to pay a visit. He's inherited more questions than answers; more problems than solutions.

Quite possibly.
Its the stupidity of the next decision that compounded the problem.
Mick may turn out to be a good coach for us (though I highly doubt it) but the process of firing quality assistants and getting in mates and amateurs was a disgrace.
The actions of our board and administration smacked of desperation and arse covering. We gave full control to Mick because the board was desperate for a messiah to take the heat off them.
Their decisions (including the Malthouse appointment) have robbed many quality Carlton players (Simpson etc) of the opportunity to taste success and history will righly judge them very harshly.

This club wont go anywhere while people like Sticks are steering the ship. They dont have the courage to do the hard yards.

So why Daisy?

Why not save ourselves 600-700k and get a compo pick when we lose Betts and grab a kid.

We've been sold a lie Mr Cheese. The only question is, was the club complicit in the lie.?

What pick would we have gotten for Betts? Mid-20s at best? Who and what would we have got for that? It's all speculation. I think Daisy will play good footy for us - he'd obviously want to - its easy to forget he's coming from a pretty low base given his recent output.

I think Thomas, too, as much as anything was a commercial acquisition. Sells memberships, kids might want to run around with his number on their jumper. We need one of those.

Absolutely ... it was simply not good enough for a rookie coach to take us from bottom to 5th in 3 years ... a disgraceful performance. We are much better off now ... thankfully!

And those suckers at Hawthorn ended up with a lame duck ... will they never learn.

I suppose he was too busy being a great coach to oversee a recruiting agenda that was both sensible and aligned with the trends emerging in the game. Or bother to develop the players we seemingly picked out of a hat at random...

Edit: I think Ratts is a decent assistant coach. When there are so many balls in the air and he's having to keep track of them all, that's when he falls down.

Yes, I'm certain "being coached by former Melbourne assistant and (forgotten the suburban team he coached...) Brett Ratten" was right up the top of Judd's wish list or criteria.
