Am I happy about this appointment?

Don't know yet. When he stands before the cameras in full view of the people that put their money towards this club and delivers a clear, realistic vision for the future direction of the club with specific KPIs, recommendations and vision (ie not "We want to get back to where we belong"), then I might be happy about it.

If I hear the same old twaddle and rhetoric, that will be a different story.

If anyone can give me his business and education profile I'd be most grateful. I know they're an Italian family with long links to the inner suburbs, but that's about it.

Grazie, Effes.

Pretty impressed, like his background in the fruit industry too, maybe our Frank Costa?

Yeah, I knew about this too, definitely a negative.

It's however true - he wanted to get on the Board (not President) and he was not eligible because he was not a member. Dont recall which year it was - but he admitted to it in the media.

No big deal in my eyes.

More than happy to have Tom as President if it can happen.

Smart, business savvy and a media performer. Some other successful Presidents have similar backgrounds.

The key is he really needs to want to do it, is committed, has a plan and has full support of the board. If he does he could well be what we need. A fresh set of eyes.

Well, it depends. It was at a time when the club was in a bad financial state. If you as a quite wealthy hedge fund manager (he was at the time) cant be arsed to even put in for a full membership financially..... Does not look good in my book. But we have to agree to disagree (I actually like Tom - but this issue has always stuck with me).

Maybe he was protesting about the board that took his dad's name off the stand and wouldn't allow him at club functions.

I had no idea he works with Anthony Di Pietro... there's a growing band of of VIctory fans that want his head... things like searching the world for a coach and appointing the the guy in the next office

As for Tom Elliot... love to hear what he stands for and if he bothered to buy a membership this time round.

Wasn't it to replace them?

Tom is an intelligent thoughtful successful man who understands the modern age I believe.
So probably not Carlton board material.

I've done work for his brother(?), who is the director of Banco Group (they're the ones responsible for the redevelopment of Smith St between the old Post Office and Peel Street). If they're cut from the same cloth, then I doubt Mark would be the type to be nice about things and feel all gooey inside.

Might have to listen in. I have avoided all media this week (and the last 3 weeks) but this might be worth listening to.

Doesn't seem too interested. Not even in a "lets wait and see" kind of way.

Passionate Carlton man, but no designs on the presidency.

May very well be wrong, no issue with that. I don't know, his vibe was very reserved.

Caro kept throwing Fraser Brown's name about. Going to get interesting.

I have continued my usual ritual of listening to sports radio first thing in the morning for an hour and for about 2 hours before bed. Not one single mention of Carlton....on ESPN New York 98.7 fm
