surely thats planning.... in a season where we have come to terms with what we are... we havent replaced recruiters as yet.
When was the Geelong guy severed?
and how long has it been since they would have known Hughes isnt the future?

Nothing about this club is planned and organised.

Its a hotch potch of half baked stuff....

can you smell what were cooking????

Hey Synbad - the recruiters have been appointed. Glenn Elliott and Dale Harris. Both have been working with the club for the past several years part time. For anyone older than my vintage - not the same Glenn Elliott who played footy with Melbourne.

Dale has experience many years ago assisting with Tassie U18 team back when the Crows National Recruiting Manager Hamish Ogilvie coached the team. Has been in the industry a long time. Glenn worked for the Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre so if the place is torched - we have someone who'll know what to do.

Full-time. Glenn left RMIT as Research Associate in February.

The crucial (and obvious) factor in this is how big a broom is LoGiodice going to bring with him? And then of course what sort of people come in as replacements. If he's got a clear vision and the drive (and mandate, let's be honest), to change the club the foundation for a relatively quick turnaround may be in place by the end of the year (new CEO focused on the right areas, director of footy, list manager - let the baker bake the bread, eh, Mick).

What makes you think he has a broom? He's a Mathieson man and as such he'll steer the ship and make sure the numbers remain with the Mathiesons' rather than with the Pratts. See previously - the Pratt faction has had the numbers. That's how I see it anyway...sure - he'll make some changes - but I doubt many the kind you are talking about.

If he's Mathieson's man, and Bruce is agitating for change, maybe there is a broom - even if it's coming off a hook in Bruce's garage?

The dynamics of the board are unlikely to change, i agree. But some wise appointments to the CEO position and a shake up of the footy dept seem to be in order regardless of board makeup.

I think these posts are a timely reminder that we should not believe every little thing we read on this forum.
Some smell blood and are going for the jugular. Points get brought up that are wrong or don't really matter designed to feed egos or agendas.

Who could forget the fuss made over a coach eating lollies or cheering goals or quoting stats in pressers? These were reasons to get rid of a coach in favour the cool calm Mick Malthouse who would never quote a stat in a presser.

We should all be sensible and work towards the best outcome based on real facts.

Thing is - what if Naomi Milgrom wanted to join the board.

http://www.monash.edu.au/alumni/find/pr ... lgrom.html

Or her sister Carol Schwartz? http://www.monash.edu.au/alumni/find/pr ... wartz.html

Both Carlton supporters - but both would be in the Pratt camp...it's a numbers game. Not really helpful is it?

Actually Daniel from the same family would be a walk up....
Carlton supporter
doesnt know much about footy
would vote with Pratts

and wouldnt have any ideas and just sit on the board like Geminder for a few years

A full spill and a re-election for 8 board members would sort it out.
The camps would disappear.

I think by now we all know what you want to happen and part of it looks like it is going to happen so I don't think there is any need to go overboard.

The part that isn't going to happen is CFC seeing the back of the rich families that have a huge say in the club so we may as well be solution focussed and try and come up with ways we can get it all to work.

there is no way it will work

and i didnt make this happen.. i could foresee it.

culture breeds culture

for as long as our club is in an Oligarchical stronghold we wont go up the ladder..
For as long as think-tanks are prepared by pseudo elites creating bubbles we wont grow.

People here just need to be aware of that.....

there is nothing new in all the changes that are about to be made...

why?
because the decision makers are the same making those changes...

histiry always repeats itself

I'll never give up arguing against oligarchic rule.

The accountability of board members to it's members is essential for good governance.

In my opinion, change needs to occur within the board. And while I am an advocate of a complete board spill and a new direction, we need to be mindful of the financial reliance we currently have on both the Pratts and the Mathiesons.

Until that can be addressed we need to be careful with what we wish for.

I'm pretty sure a well run club and directors can handle the debt without begging or worrying about oligarchs.
This is akin to battered wives syndrome.

thats a myth

The Carlton brand is worth more than the current sponsors provide.

It will survive in a different way afterwards.

Can you imagine the Pratts and Mathesons pulling their support for the club if they are not re-elected?

What are they doing there in the first place if they link their board positions with sponsorship etc? (they wont anyway because they benefit from the relationship more than the club does)

The Blues has a 23 million dollar debt when Elliott was booted out at the end of 2002. At the time our revenue was about 20 million dollars per year.

We now have a debt of 6 million dollars and a revenue of about 46 million dollars per year (almost 10 million coming from gaming, 10 million from memberships, 9 million from the AFL and 13 million from sponsors+)

So our debt has decreased from 23 million to 6 million in about 11 years. Thats a retirement of debt of about 2 million dollars per year.

Its a myth to believe that these Oligarchs are pouring in funds from their own pockets to keep the club afloat. Thats what they want you to believe....that they are saviors and that the members cant live without them...

I can assure you the Oligarchs on the board have benefited far more from the club than the other way around....They use this club as a corporate play toy...even though they may like supporting the blues.

So do the members and they contribute about 22% of the total club revenue each year. And buy most of the merchandise and attend functions etc////

I was talking to my wife about this actually after I came home from the Melbourne debacle and she said Collingwood was run the same way in the 90s (She's a feral supporter unfortunately) until Eddie McGuire was voted in by the members and really shook up the place. Got rid of alot of the oligarchic rule and boys club mentality they had with regards to the football club.
