Of course give them a go...in fact I am keen to join them, but fail the age criteria.

I just don't know what the purpose and agenda is

Nothing to do with tall poppy syndrome - who said they were tall poppies anyway?

TPS is a real thing in this country, but in this instance I think there's something else at play. Something far more specific to what ails the CFC.

We have an exclusionary culture at the club. A culture that says it's ok to lock members out of training sessions that are advertised as open. A culture that thinks a handful of 'saviours' or monied individuals can control the club, and the rest of the Carlton community can just act like mushrooms and pay their memberships. A culture that seeks to remove voting rights from interstate members. Where Collingwood and Hawthorn actively seek to open up, and bring as many people in as possible… Carlton seeks to close ranks and keep things 'in house'.

It's a stupid, self-defeating philosophy that's totally at odds with the kind of progressive corporate culture that succeeds in the world today. Given the core of this group seems to be the offspring of current and recently departed powerbrokers and board members, it just seems like a continuation of the closed-circle culture that has bred failure in the modern era.

What's the definition of insanity: doing the same thing again and expecting a different result.

its an interesting point you raise...

the Blues members can vote at AGMs

Not all members can vote at Essendon*, the pies and at the Kangaroos you need to be a share holder to vote (one vote per share, so money and share portfolios rule over there)

these clubs almost shut out all of their members from voting at AGMs. There could be other clubs too with similar set ups.

carlton may well be exclusive in certain areas, but votes can be cast by ALL members.

Elliott was booted out with basic grass roots action by the unofficial selection committee that had no resources or alternative board at the time.

"Those guys"?

Actually Percy's was originally the Hotel Astoria.

Sounds a bit like Hotel California.

Sing it with me CK...

My performance indicators? Well, if I last more than 3-4 mins the Mrs is happy and I've performed pretty well

If you're referring to the YCP, I have no idea. I'm not a member of it. As I said on the first page, first I'd heard of it was when this thread was started. I just don't see what harm it's doing. Don't expect it to be everyone's cup of tea, but the negativity seems uncalled for. I don't see the point of St Kilda existing, but a small percentage of the population get some enjoyment from them, so I let them be and don't get too upset by their existence.

There's also a George, Steve and even a Sam (whose surname all ends with an S if you know what i mean.......for those who don't I'm talking about people of Greek heritage.

I think people are reading too much into this group. I joined it as a way to connect with the club and for the social aspect of it.

A paid $220 to go to some functions and that's it. I didn't join it because I think I can save the club but for the social gatherings.

If some in the group decide to think of - and put together some ideas tht might help the club - isn't that a good thing? Anything that might help should be seeing as a positive.

If the group comes up with stuff all and all we do is catch up every few months for a couple of drinks can't that be ok too????? We've all paid our own way and I for one have no regrets - its fun.

By the way while some group members might be offspring of power brokers etc I cn tell you most wouldn't be. I've already mentioned how much of a nobody I am. I'm just a fan. Most would be like me.

In terms of "there must be a point to it"......isn't it ok to start a group that people can join and meet other supporters and use it as a networking opportunity? Not everything has a sinister motive.

I am even more confused now as to the purpose of the group and why needs the blessing of the club or board.

You have joined for the socialising?

that's fine - there are plenty of carlton groups outside the club umbrella that engage in socialising.

This group is very specific in who can join. Young (whatever that means), carlton supporters and professionals (bit vague).

If this group has the clubs blessings and/or support with facilities and/or money etc, then its agenda needs to be outlined and published to all members.

Like all other groups under the carlton umbrella - whether they are coterie groups, ex players, ex staff, etc...

I would be keen to join the YCP group. But I would need to know what their agenda and purpose is.

If its just socialising then that needs to be spelt out

If its a think tank then its agenda needs to be made known to anyone who wants to know - esp carlton supporters.

I assume that this group is interested in increasing its membership base?????

if its a think tank, then why have an age limit and requirement to be a professional (whatever that means)???

Obviously ideas cannot possible emanate from people above a certain age and people who don't have a formal qualification or belong to a professional body.

Yes I joined just for the socializing. That's all. Like I've said already if you knew me you'd realize how immaterial I am. Seriously just a regular supporter with no influence past present or even future.

I have no idea what support YCP gets from the club. We'd have to ask the committee. However I would also like to state that if anyone else set up a supporters group that they too would also have the support of the club......absolutely. And I wouldn't care or expect a run dog their agenda. I'd say good on them for doing it.

Not being a smart@rse here but who are the other Carlton groups outside the club umbrella? I seriously don't know of any.
