Very gracious of Mick to bring up his record of coaching teams to finals in his last 7 years of coaching, seemed quite chuffed.

He did the same thing his last 5 years at the WCE.

Why re-build with a coach that probably isn't going to be there in 5 years time? It's madness.

Mick is passed it and isn't getting any younger. Yet we're gonna give him free-reign to rebuild?

Madness. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Is this relating to the comments from McKay and Malthouse through the week? Here's a recap:

McKay: The coaches asked the players if they were happy with the game plan, they said yes.

Malthouse: I never had any such meetings personally.

Good to see mick taking responsibility for the performances so far

Players always make and break coaches...no magic bullets in this caper

Just hard work, leadership and honesty....

We are superb in these areas aren't we ladies and gentlemen ?

Glad you picked that up jimmae. I want MM gone and we have had mixed messages, but this was not one of them.

Ok. I'm going to lay it all out for everyone.

Brett Ratten had the best years of this current list. Under him we managed 1 elimination final victory and several close calls, some more palatable than others.

Had we beat Brisbane or Sydney or West Coast who knows what might've happened? I doubt we'd have won the thing, we weren't that good. We all hoped we were close and many thought we were.

The best examples I can give you are Chris Judd and Nick Duigan. One is a champion, the other a serviceable player. Judd was at his peak in a Carlton jumper 08-11, all under Ratts.

In the case of Nick Duigan, it was a conveniently case for both player and club that we got him when he was playing his best football. This peak really only lasted the 2011 season, during which he was a solid contributor and improved us. But he had no more improvement left in him after that. In fact, he slightly regressed.

Jamison was more solid, Waite much the same. Now both, just as examples, are worn down by injury and shells of their former selves, at least as consistently as we need them to be.

Simply, this lists best years were 09-11, during which we won one final. Whether that's simply as good as the list was or it was hamstrung by the coach etc etc etc is a question lost to time.

We are in the mire because, perhaps more than anyone, Brett Ratten overestimated this list. The board might've done it later. Mick might've done it after that. But the holes that are apparent to everyone now exist because Ratts failed to address them and adequately plan for the future. We traded top picks, stuffed up others... The gulf between our better - now older - players and the young brigade exists because he didn't oversee a good enough recruiting or development program.

All the issues we have with our list can trace their roots to Brett Ratten's time in charge. We drafted small when we should have gone tall and when we did go tall we went for very, very ordinary options. Then, worst of all, we failed to get the most out of either.

At the same time, most of what is positive about this list is as a result of this new regime. Menzel, Cripps, Holman, Graham et al? All products of a revamped approach to drafting, itself lead by a new man following Mick disregarding the other.

Malthouse has been left with an almighty mess to clean up. If Ratten or anyone else was in charge we'd be no better off. In fact, I'd be more worried about the future. We'd still have the same deficiencies. We'd still have the same concerns.

Mick has until the end of 2015 on his current deal. If were improved at the end of that deal, or at least heading in the right direction, then we discuss a renewed deal to keep him at the club. If not, then we begin looking for someone else.

Worst case scenario, the clean out has begun, new young talent has been injected and we've seen to the ills that plague this list. We mightn't have solved them all, but at least we've begun the process.

Agreed verbs, and yet so many do.
that's fine, and I'm not asking for him to go until his contract ends.
Like Ratts should have been let go then.
That is the fault of the board.
I just do not want MM being resigned.
i don't like his game plan
I don't like him.
Let's wait, do what we can short term..ie start the rebuild, get a fntastic new Prez..etc.
We won't attract the best and brightest coaching staff either until we lose Mick.We must be patient.
One more year.

Unless, we do a giant clean sweep, including MM before then.

Problem solved we poach Clarko from the Hawks in 2015.

Clarko can turn our crap list in to gold overnight, some just don't get it. Our list is full of nice guys who are not prepared to bleed for the jumper.

Seriously just look at our leadership group, full of introverts.

What do you expect with our history of recruiting over the past 10 years.

We deserve what is happening, crap planning, crap recruitment, crap list management, crap leadership on and off the field - this is what you get.

Do you mean get Clarkson for 2015 or get in 2015 for 2016.

We cant wait until 2016, there won't be a club left.

Just stay away from the hasbeens. Pagan and now Strangelove have decimated us on the back of their premiership glory days.

The man is old, slow, grumpy and boring. A recipe for disaster.

Nobody can avoid blame, at least Malthouse has the balls to cop the heat in front of the media. Sticks went home when he had the chance to have his say. Script writer mustn't have been at the game and without an internet connection.
