I too am a little perplexed. Seems like a good initiative to me also. I could do without the 'networking' side of things, seems a little self-serving and of little benefit to the Club. The 'think tank' stuff though definitely piqued my interest - here we all are, screaming and squabbling every day about ideas and ways of improving things around the Club without any real avenue or voice, and along comes a vehicle (at least on paper) where these ideas can be heard.

Doc, I thought Josh responded quite articulately and was quite informative. You've slung back a 5 word retort which really doesn't enlighten us as to why this is a poor idea. Responding to questions with questions is also unhelpful. I'm usually with you 99% of the time, I think you've got a great business head on your shoulders and a good understanding of the way things work...when you choose to elaborate. This is one of those times.

Why is this a poor initiative?

1. Is it because you believe with the current board and administration that any attempt at pushing new ideas is futile?
2. Is it because the YCP Executive is comprised of 'old Carlton' which perhaps suggests a continuance of 'jobs for the boys (& girl)' and the same old ways of thinking? A junior version of our current setup, if you will?
3. Is it because the 'think tank' section of the YCP is by and large a pipedream and a shallow façade for what you perceive as a bunch of rich Carlton supporters grouping up to meet up at lavish events, pat each other on the back and compare bank balances?

Would this be a better idea if A) We had a new CEO/Pres/board and B) It was initiated by CFC supporters who weren't attached to old Carlton higher-uppers?

I'm at a bit of a loss here. Please feel free to expand on your "full of shit" remark with a bit more substance...I know you've got it.

Scotty, think you'll have to wait seven days for your response.

There must be some history here. The response from many is immature, rude and childish. :screwy: Doesn't surprise me though

I encourage anyone who gets off their ass and tries to make a difference.

I have no issue with the concept in its basic principle - a coterie group aimed at young supporters.

Execution and potential factionalism has its rightful queries.

Despite the way they have responded, I think a lot of people are questioning the reason for having something like this. I'm sure the people involved have good intentions, however, for mine, this is just opening us up for criticism. Not sure about the 'selection' criteria either.

In the interests of balance and fairness, someone should start a Carlton Painters & Dockers Union, for those who are unemployed, working in questionable fields of employment, some sort of disability, or just wish we were more like Fremantle.

The working class make up a large number of bums on seats and memberships. Pretty easy to keep that money in your pocket and invest in Foxtel like I do :-)

The YCP professionals has networking potential for me, but so do many other avenues like www.meetup.com or industry groups or linked in etc etc. outside of that I can send ideas in writing to the Club.

The problem is if YCP is to succeed they need to be strategic in solving problems based on root cause analysis, not provide ideas for the short term.

Why is our membership so low? Keep asking why until you can no longer, then you have the root cause that you can associate ideas too.

PS: I think I'm going through a midlife crisis, I've posted 2-3 serious posts today.

I must be an old fart then.

Organising supporter groups is a valid idea. I prefer Doc's model though.

They wouldn't want too many 44 year olds. They'd then have to terminate them, Logan's Run style, a year later.

I think we're in an age where inclusiveness is the key to a sustainable club. This feels like the opposite to me. But that's the Carlton way, I guess.
