ultimately the responsibility rests with sticks and the board.So many years of bad decisions...
drafting/ recruiting/ list management/ bad habits
then come the players and coaches and everybody else

we spent years bringing these players into our system
what have we done.
there was no leadership at the club before mm came..
there was no work ethic

ill tell you what we do

we give judd a milion in the salary cap and half a million outside the salary cap in the form of third party payments with visy and promotional money
then in a blink of an eye we have 14 VISY ambassadors...
and we have players involved with board members in third party investments

thats not the role of the board members... one of these blokes doing this is Mark L.. our future president

The players will get well looked after if they perform... and they achieve

all of this happened before the coach came to the club

we are creating an environment not conducive to a successful hungry culture
our players want the spoils of success without the feat of success
i call it a terrible culture and a club out of touch with reality

plus a whole swag of @#$%&! ups ... one after the other
you call it a book launch tour

ultimately it boils down to those running the club ... not entirely mm and not entirely the players

the players are a by product of the environment they are in

whata Cretylus isnt getting is... nobody at this club does any of those things...
and yet.. the players are going to

parents attempt to create the best environment for their kids as possible
they wont smoke inside the house
they dont encourage laziness and lies
they try to find the best schools they can for their kids
they encourage a work ethic at school
they dont spoil their kids
they make their kids clean up and make their bed

then u have that show swapping wives and families
and u see how once the swap is on the families dont cope too well if theres a huge difference

im sure joel selwood would not be the player he is at geelong if he was at carlton
im sure nobody at this club has ever told judd to work on his marking and kicking
im sure we would pay buddy more to bring him or keep him and there is nobody at the club that would tell him to pull his head in

Selwood is a natural and instinctive leader though Mr S....I suspect Selwood would have influenced others to follow if he was recruited by the blues. But then again the blues may have seen him as too arrogant, brash and needed sorting out. How dare he speak to Judd and Murphy etc in that tone during a match or during a team meeting....

As far as Judd is concerned, I believe that Diesel challenged Judd and everybody else to improve their skills and kicking when diesel was skills acquisition coach....What do you think Judd's response to that was?

Cretylus why do familes attempt to provide the best possible environment for their children.. and not allow them to do the "natural" they will be ok no matter what they do program ?

Selwood went to a club that was honest enough to have an internal review from top to bottom. His grounding in his environment was different... the players and the whole club had some standards

Remember Mr S history occasionally provides us with some sublime counter examples of truth exposure and enlightenment..

take the Scott twins example, for example.

One Scott goes to north, the other goes to the cats

One cant win a game, the other breaks all records in 2011 by winning the first 13 games, only dropping two games by a kick or so during the year and then putting on a magnificent team performance in the GF - against the reigning premiers too, after giving them a 5 goal start and losing their full forward early...

We are talking about twins here - brothers, identical genetically and even experienced similar outcomes at the Lions during their run of flags (one can argue that Chris was a better player)

So what do we learn from the Scott twins experience?

Who is the better coach??

Why did one win a flag in his first year whilst the other struggles to make the finals??

And like the all great coaches have stated previously - PLAYERS make coaches. Parkin's top 8 critical factors in a club being successful (ie winning GFs) didn't include the senior coaching appointment.

Parkin has even said that its possible to snatch a flag even if you get the senior coaching role wrong, but stuff up in the 8 critical areas and its highly unlikely that you will make a GF let alone win one... (and Parkin was purely talking about the Football related aspects of the club - and couldn't find a critical spot for the senior coach)

In 2012, when we were decimated by injury, our disposal effectiveness was 72.2%.
Better than Geelongs, better than Essendons. (After our 72.5% in 2011).

Since Mick took over our disposal efficiency went down to 70.1% in 2013 (16th in the AFL) and a magnificent 67.2% in 2014.

Our shitful current plight has little to do with fitness and little to do with skills.
Its because we play a ridiculous game plan that tells the players to bust their arses to win the ball and then kick it up in the air and let the opposition have an even chance of getting it back.

What's even worse is we then expect the players to implement some form of forward press whilst they know full well the ball is a 50/50 chance of going back over their heads. This game style was great in 2010 when Collingwood played the forward press and the other teams were not. The Pies kicked the ball to a leading Cloke or Dawes and pressed up to keep it inside 50 until they scored.

Now everyone is implementing the press! There is no space for players to lead into. We bring the ball out of defence and 18 of the opposition are within 60 metres of the ball. Yet our brain surgeons in the box tell us to kick the @#$%&! out of it anyway.

That's why our players are confused and lacking confidence. How many times did you see a Carlton player punch a ball on Sunday when he could have marked it? Why do you think that happened?
Because they're confused and lacking confidence. In Round 3!!!

So please. Instead of putting all the blame on the players. Let's actually analyse how we're playing the game and ask why no one else is.

Malthouse game plan has won the Premiership across 3 decades each of which has had different trends in football emerge. We have a successful game plan, just no players to make the most of it.

In fact looking at the kicking stats, no game plan will work with us.
