It should be the primary reason we don't go after him.

I reckon we had to get Malthouse, or someone like him. There was too much wondering about whether or not Ratten was wasting a premiership list. It's looking pretty obvious to me that the list is just not as good as a lot of people thought. (And to be fair to the players there's quite a few underdone blokes out there who are doing their best ... but it's a tough game if you're not at your peak).

the question then becomes, "why did ratten have a premiership list, and within one pre season, under Mick, our list changed to a poor one, that needed long term rebuilding?"

Betts for example was the number one defensive forward in the AFL over the past 2 or 3 years, and good kick goals, electrify the crowd and play some magic footy.

But we couldnt find 100k to keep him....

Now we want to off load Gibbs, who has been very consistent since he put a jumper on.

I take no comfort from it but if you want to be a lazy poster you might get pulled up.

If you recall I have continually said that I don't know of another example of a senior coach not attending the start of the preseason at their club. I even said "if someone knows of an example then I stand corrected"

thanks for pointing out that ROOS took a similar leave of absence at the demons when he took over.

I notice that Roos is also winless as a coach at the demons (even though Mick went on his book launching tour the year before)

Would you say that senior coaches not being present at the start of the preseason is common?

Do you think its a good idea?

funny how you conveniently skimmed past my post that showed Mick was at the club on day 1 of preseason.

mick's book tour was in october during trade period. not that it makes it anymore respectable, but at least be accurate when we're criticising the club.

Quote:
With the new book scheduled to be launched on October 23, Malthouse will begin his promotional tour with Christi on October2 4 but a lengthy series of engagements in Western Australia have been either cut or brought forward given the Blues' Arizona trip.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/m ... 262l6.html

Mick was at the first preseason session on November 5th 2012 http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-pre ... 6511071392

players were back on November 1 2012

So you are saying Mick was there on the 5th November?

(Official Publication date for Malthouse's book was November 2012 Allen & Unwin)

I think we need an independent royal commission into the book tour.

It's clearly distracting the players, and the board are paralyzed by this issue.

I think the whole book tour scandal is responsible for global warming too.

Let's get Ziggy in to spend a year auditing the book tour.
This is the most burning issue on the planet today, let alone in footy.

GET BOOK TOUR!

Quote:
Perhaps the recent butchering by foot could be tolerated if the Blues were taking aggressive kicks up the corridor, at least giving the team some chance of fast-break supply to their forwards one-on-one.

But the Blues have persisted with Malthouse’s boundary-line game plan. Carlton has attempted to kick through the corridor out of defence only 7.8 per cent of the time, again ranked 18th in the league.

Knowing exactly where Carlton will try to exit their backline, the opposition are crowding the exit points on the back flanks and pressuring the Blues into mistakes.

You give the opposition a chance to win it back when you keep kicking to contests.

The good teams make the kick out of defence easy by getting players free in plenty of space.

This involves our team to run, which they can't. They simply don't look fit enough for the AFL.

Have a really good look at them, they're not in AFL shape. Their offseason did not involve working hard, and now they're reaping what they've sown.

Chipping 30-40m at 45 degrees isn't running - having the chip into the corridor makes you less predictable.

The key is getting a free player in that area - not hard to achieve via a block on an opponent. Get that player free and the kick is relatively straightforward.

As the article states

Quote:
The Blues were long regarded as one of the league’s most skilful and damaging midfields under former coach Brett Ratten, instead leaving the club to continually defend questions about their perceived lack of physicality.

are we cherry picking articles now effes?
articles... who wrote that?

we had a purple patch.. the games changed.
as teams worked harder both offensively and defensively we failed to stay with them

what youre saying is a team of more than one third rookie drafted players is going to stay with the elite teams....

its ludicrous.. its not going to happen

when we blew scores of picks on players who were never going to play in positions and roles we needed nobody was upset
now we have to use rookie listed players in those roles.. youre expecting them to play skilful concise football.

correct??

The stats are there from Champion Data. Undeniable.

It appears you are cherry picking - ignoring the data because it doesn't suit your argument.

It's pretty obvious that the game plan can't work.

I just watch in amusement as the Bomber robots filled in the only avenues out we had.

Kids stuff really. There isn't another coach in any league teaching this baloney.

Not even the Hawks could make this shit work.

effes what do the stats say about effort ????

bring those up

tackle counts and 1%

i dont cherry pick mate..

and what do they ssay about teams that have 8 odd rookie listed players with more in the ressies ready to step in.. as a handful of top round picks are garbaage.. and there are no 2nd and 3rd round picks.

delve into it and give us those stats or you really are a cherry picker working on jays crappy article thats half baked

did i not say last year the game to pay attention to was the swans game not the tigers game???

well???

You have to run and spread to create the space. With the way most of our guys kick the ball, we need to run extra hard to compensate for the amount of time the ball is in the air for. It's all related to fitness.

Doing that for four quarters requires fitness. The better your disposal skills, the less fitness required -- see Hawthorn. For us, with our terrible efficiency, we need to be the fittest team in the league if we want to have a hope to compete with the top 6.

I would guess we are a bottom 4 team in fitness and strength. Which is why we're easily bullied, which is why 1st gamers can take shots at our captain, and why Goddard can bully a 70 kilo 3rd gamer and have nobody step in.

We're physically fragile.

Effes give us something outside of short kicking statistics
I know i get fixations also... but im abit more complex than 'short kicking stats v long bombs'
how about we delve into every other aspect of what we have going out there also.

you know why we had eight rookie listed players out there on sunday night???

either early picks are shit..
or the 20 plus picks used on hbfer types including joey anderson and steven brown.. who have been long forgotten about.

so of course when u use all your picks on hbfer types.. and your speculative picks on mids and whatever... youre going to have a massive hole in your list

we do have that

2nd round pick....?? rowe
3rd round pick....?? robbo

thats it for our second and third round picks out there on the weekend

now get to the other stats and stop the simplistic view of our problems

its embarassing..if you belive thats where were falling down

that may be one area... but examine why

Sorry Braithy.

This has nothing to do with run and spread because those two things are used for corridor or switch footy.

We don't do either .
