From Barrett:

Sticks endorsing Grant O'Brien as Prez (Woolworths)

Representative from Woolies said this was all 'news to him' (O'Brien)

Should all be sorted by 14/6

Trainor, LoGiudice, Fahour the other candidates (Fahour may struggle for numbers)

Debunks the whole oligarch concoction. Maybe sticks has more say than given credit for. See how it plays out

Saw that and remembered kennyhunter and DocSherrin talking about Grant in the 'Sticks - Grand Illusion' Thread a couple of years ago.

Have to check WookieTV Effes, but I thought that it was Barrett not Sticks that mentioned O'Brien, with Sticks saying that as far as he was concerned it was between Trainor and LoGiudice?....

Why would Fahour struggle for numbers on the board.?

So you're saying Fahour is out of the board loop because he is lazy.

There's a strong connection ... good mates with the pokies king and a big Carlton man.
But lives in Sydney and v busy. Perhaps a spot in the board first?

In relation to directorships and presidents its not a matter of the length of time they put into an organization, but what decisions they make and their long term philosophies/ideologies and strategies employed to achieve them.

What are the long term goals of the board as a united group? How are they trying to achieve them? Are they including everyone at the club, especially the members.

Remember, the two most critical things that keep a club alive and vibrant are the players who wear the jumper in the field of battle and the members.

The club culture builds around these pillars and infuses history, success, failures, heart ache, joy etc

My 10 year old son last week said to me "dad, would you get angry if I barracked for another team?"

Members and players, players and members, if you don't have most of them on board, then the club decays, spirals into the oblivion of irrelevancy......the club becomes an empty superficial shell that was once teaming with energy and hope....

(We will knock off the bombers Sunday night, and the players will hide away in their comfort zone for another 7 days, and some members will then start to worry about whether the team can beat melbourne the following week)

agree with all this...but have a look at the Carlton 2013 Annual Report and the numbers of Directors that did not turn up to meetings...
i suggest there is a minimum time requirement for Directors - I would prefer we have Board members like Maguire at Collingwood - 24hrs 7 days a week.... :fight:

Yes we need someone that lives and breaths what Carlton used to stand for excellence, innovation, WINNING, who is open to being on the job when needed.

Does Kochie have a Carlton-supporting twin that we don't know about?

If you take the time to listen to Eddie M. he knows plenty about other sports, especially those with winning cultures. He brings that knowledge back to the pies and improves them wherever they need it. Sticks was a legend but part of the old guard. I don't see him investing in a new culture at Carlton. We keep doing the same things but expect the outcome to be different. Eddie picked up Collingwood off the mat and like them or loathe them, they are one of the countries strongest sporting brands. Ours is withering on the vine. Hope seems to be evaporating amongst the supporters and we either have to settle for making up the numbers or get out.

I see photos of D. Thomas everywhere but he has only played two comeback games, while Henderson is possibly our most important player. I suggest he is a better player than Josh Kennedy, yet the club favor others. It seems to me we still play favorites, still bring in the big name coach, still cling to the old ways. There does not appear to be any new vision, creativity or innovation within our club.

If we keep this up, we will become just like St Kilda & Footscray. Richmond get big numbers even after thirty years of medicrity. I'm not sure our supports have that blind faith. We have stuck fast after the salary cap breaches but where is the hope?

I would like to see wholesale changes to the board and then the football dept. It's time we sought new ways of tackling our plight. Personally, I believe we need people like Silvagni back at home. He has been given dream picks but what I really admire is his application to the details. He has strategically managed trades etc to maximise his position, keeping up to date with the subtleties of the new rules. This is the type of thinking we need. Our picks and trades have been middle of the pack at best with nothing startling bar Juddy, whom we paid market price for.

I love my bluebaggers but how can I get my kids interested in mediocrity?

Gives us innovation and creativity, please Carlton. Please. Hope for the future rather grim expectation.

There are 4 things that have killed or is killing Carlton:

1 THE DRAFT
2. THE SALARY CAP
3. THE LOSS OF HOME GROUND
4. CONSTITUTION

Points 1 is directed to our poor recruitment, development and list management

Point 2 is directed to our poor Executive, administration and Board. We cannot buy Premierships any more.

Point 3 has two (2) Parts:

Part 1 - Loss of connection of the Membership with the Board and Administration - the Board and Administration are not properly advised or informed by its Members
Part 2 - Football home ground advantages where teams like Geelong now benefit

Point 4 - the Constitution provides for 13 Directors. Too large.
