There is a way though...

Carlton-Melbourne.

I can't believe what I just read

I would prefer the slow torturous death then to merge with Melbourne.

It's the Carlton Blues or it's nothing. We are not Melbourne.

We are not red and royal blue. We are navy!

Melbourne Blues or Carlton Demons ... I'd rather we fold and at least keep some dignity.

Mate, alot of people would probably agree with you.

At the moment Carlton is effectively Melbourne but with more money......

Lets all have a drink

why would merging two poor club cultures solve the problem?

(it will enhance the list depth short term, but if the underlying reasons for each clubs problems are not addressed in an open and honest manner, long term the merger will simply produce one crappy sporting organization rather than two.)

Its not merging two poor cultures, it's DESTROYING two poor club cultures and enabling a new and modern and unshackled professional culture to be created.

The day Carlton merge is the day I no longer have anything to do with AFL.

Same.

Carlton may be an inept, mediocre football club but it's my inept, mediocre football club.

So no one is keen on a Carlton-Footscray merge? I reckon I could support the Blue Heelers.

actually its very logical

consolidating mediocrity...
turn 2 mediocre teams into one bigger mediocre team.. add richmond and its a massive mediocrity team

u have to love the idea..

its fantastic

the comp goes back to 16 clubs...

and less rubbish filling the fixtures

...when you put a cheap, shoddy piece of salami in two stale moldy slices of bread you get a shitty sandwich (rexy, you only have to look at the Liberal/national coalition government we currently have in Canberra to realize this - surely you of all people know what happens when you mix crap with manure)

its what keeping the competition afloat. I believe only the Kangaroos don't have any revenue stream from pokies (although that may have changed since I last looked)

Check out the Pies - huge revenue from pokies.

At Carlton, we get about 9.5 million from gaming/pokies which makes up about 20% of out total annual revenue. That alone essentially pays for the entire player salary cap, and equals what we get from the AFL (9 million) and what we generate from memberships (10 million)

It has been a disturbing trend in sport and business in Australia. Profit rules everything here. Australia has almost 25% of the worlds pokie machines - incredible statistic, and something we should be thoroughly ashamed of as a nation of clowns and puppets
