You could get a quality KP with one pick and a quality player of any position with the other pick. It would be madness to put all your eggs in one basket.

I don't think 2 top 10 picks for Patton is madness. Hes already shown enough to suggest he's going to be better than 'quality'. You'd be paying a premium for exposed form and in this case I would do it. I get your point, however.

Put it this way - GWS are in a unique situation with the three players they have at the same age and all such high quality. Offering them a couple of picks for Patton helps them keep the wage bill down in the medium term.

Yes so they dont need to trade anyone of them

And Synners, you asked a while ago which player coaches would prefer of Gibbs and Murph. One of them has won a Coaches Award, in 2011 I believe. Does that answer the question for you?

2011 is 2011....
This is 2014... why not say double brownlow medalist juddy is who everyone would want right now...???

one of the problems with people is they do not understand things for what they are......

Ha! The point being, that coaches obviously rate the way Murphy plays. He won that award in a year Dane Swan won the brownlow and Judd had a better year than his own Brownlow in 2010. He had a season of consistently great football, something Gibbs is yet to do.

I think if a coach backed himself to get Gibbs to play to his ceiling, he might take him over Murphy. However I think that most coaches would rather have Murphy's more consistent level and bank that over wondering which Gibbs was going to turn up each week.

I also think you are selling Murphy very short in this discussion.

I think they will. They have one too many, and each of them is going to want to get paid.

If they get a couple of draft picks for one of the three, that's at least two more years before those two draft picks turn into 2nd contracts. I don't know what Patton's contract length is, but it might finish up this year.

..I agree with effes, Boyd may be great, but we need more than one great player.. ..we need quality and quantity.. ..I will take two very good over one great.. ..we tried one great (Judd), it isn't enough.. ..in a kpp heavy draft we could perhaps get two, and have a strong spine for the future along with hendo.. ..I know it isn't a Carlton thing circa 21st century, but it would be nice to have more than 1 or 2 genuine quality kpp's out on the field.. ..we might even have three!!, I know, crazy talk but we can dream..

..we are also very light for quality midfielders.. ..we have a lot of holes in our list to fill, we need to drop our messiah complex and build a flag list, instead of chasing champions, build a champion team..

youre talking 2011 again.....

it was a very good year... it was a very good year

When I was running around untagged
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for small town carlton mids
And soft winter nights
Wed hide from the MCG lights
On the village green
When it was 2011

When it was 2014
But now the days grow short
Im in the autumn of the year
And now I think of my life as on old cask wine
from fine old kegs
from the brim to the dregs
And it poured bitter and piss beer
It was a very not a good year

Actually ... youre talking baloney...!!!

It has been reported Gibbs wants to know Carlton's direction before making a decision.

Malthouse believes the Blues recruits from other clubs – Dale Thomas, Andrejs Everitt and Sam Docherty – plus draftees such as Patrick Cripps, signal the club is on the way up.

"If you want to look at a template of where the club's going have a look at this year and what we've recruited and see where that's going to take us," he said.

"Everitt was fantastic on the weekend, Thomas wasn't far behind him … I think we're getting better."

Us "old people" (who can't quote right) are the ones encouraging (or otherwise) the next generation of Carlton fans, and right now it's a bit hard: fixturing and results and cheating

Synners,
I get what you say about Murphy But atleast he tried last Thursday.
Has put his body on the line
he has impacted on games through the midfield

Gibbs hasn't
Soft
Slow
no leadership whatsoever
wants to play midfield but cant because of those two words
Soft Slow
We should have traded him for draft picks 3 years ago

Always has been overrated

Just absurd.
