Can I say I'm generally one of the most positive posters going around but must admit I was really disappointed with the effort on Sunday night - we waited 6 months for that effort after seeing a worse effort at ANZ stadium 6 months or so in a final - 24 points up before half time and yet just let it slip away to be beaten by 33 - pathetic - but we really have been treading water for about 20 years

I know we have canvassed the reasons

A board full of rich people thinking that the club is their play thing
Knee jerk reactions to coaching position both in terms of appointment and dismissal and no transparent approach or appropriate procedure for these important decisions
No real strategic and coherent business or financial plan to take us back to being a power
Executive management positions no renewal and the calibre of people in those positions - how do you account for Ian Coutts being in the position he was for SO many years
Pandering to rich supporters -hello Geoffrey Edelstein to the detriment of the ordinary supporter
Failure to have programs that seek to engage younger people to support Carlton
Failure to spread message /brand Australia wide
Developing young players -we are terrible -I don't subscribe to we don't recruit well - we absolutely don't develop players for the modern game and haven't for a significant period of time v

Easy to identify problems what are the solutions ? Happy to hear any

Have to say after Sunday night does anyone think it is not going to be one of those long seasons -Id take that if and only if we improved some of these other things so eventually we get out of this hole

Last 20 years performance doesn't fill me with much optimism
Also don't know about anyone else but haven't felt so uninspired about a round 2 game ever - really concerned about a belting on Thursday night

Yeh, feeling very flat about this season.

Feel that our year is not going to be good, Feel other teams are going way past us. Even feel that the Bulldogs, Melbourne will have better years than us.

Just cannot see any improvement at all. We complain about the same things every year and nothing changes.

Dont know whats wrong inside that club.

All the media are negative, and are trying to hurt us.

The club just seems weak, and just generally blah !!!!!!!!!!!!

If we get belted on Thursday night then unfortunately nothing will change because the people that "run" our club have a vested interested in keeping a staus quo. They have created what we see now and the oligarchy will remain. Sounds a bit like the PRC without the growth rate.

This is an astounding statement to make after having been on TC the past few years. Are you serious???

1. Fish. Stinks. Head.
2. Club. Owned. By. Rich. People.

1 + 2 =
3. No. Accountability.

therefore
4. Culture. Of. Mediocrity.

Drewgirl (and others), that's all you need to know.

Is it fixable? Probably not. You can actually see why throughout history, certain people and movements decided that armed revolution was the only way to go. But here we're talking about a footy club (as opposed to life and death), so my feeling is that no one will really bother.
I'm tied to Carlton pretty much by umbilical cord, but if you're able, I recommend taking up GWS or GC, or if you're stuck in Victorian parochialism, take up Geelong - you'll get your moneys worth.

Unfortunately that's an issue for many of us.

We only have ourselves to blame.

As they say in politics you get the representation you deserve.

Can't believe what I'm reading.

Be proud Carlton people you miserable bunch of lettuce leaves!

Yes, it's true that our patience gets tested from time to time, but it's football, so while it's not life and death (it's more important than that, right) the willingness to continue to support the club should be kept with good humour as well.

Change clubs if you like, but you know you'll regret it, regardless of what our future results bring.

Who's changing? :?

The issue is that its nearly 20 years since any success. Very soon it will be the longest drought in our proud 150 years. People deserve to be fed up, angry, disappointed, sad etc.

It is simply not good enough!

My comment was in reference to the end of moshe's post and that the subsequent replies looked to agree with that sentiment.

Not cutting not changing - not giving up -but objectively club needs in almost every aspect to improve
I will be there on Thursday night bought 8 tickets 4 weeks ago - will be supporting me team but needs to be some reciprocity here in terms of what we get back from the club on and off the field -sunday night was unacceptable because of performance but also unacceptable because it is symptomatic of club performance for the last 20 years -its lack of innovation ,planning and strategic thinking

Never will give it up couldn't even if I tried but doesn't stop me objectively analysing sub -standard performance on and off the field

The bigger mistake is allowing him to continue.

He has condemned us to 17 years of us "topping up" to "pinch" a flag.

adopt northern english accent and say,
aye tommi lad.
there's truth in that there is.
let's have another round.
club has come to naught, but we still have the Hirds.
(murmurs of agreement thru the pub, and even from the stuffed hedgehog mounted on the wall)

I always assess the situation by round 8 or 10.

First round loss is a poor indicator....just as a 1st round win is...

It's looking like the "same old story" again, but I will wait for a couple of months

Plus we don't really know what Swann has in his little bag of tricks - maybe He has lured Phil Mannassa or Mickey Gaffer to the club (also heard that Rene Kink and Ronnie Wearmouth are looking for work in Melbourne)

I'm glad football isn't as important to me as it used to be. I can shrug my shoulders after a loss now and get on with other important things. If we win, well that's great, I'll enjoy it and hope for more. I thank the CFC for what it has given me to this stage of my life, but for now other challenges await me personally, the last thing I need is to be stuck in a crowd on a Thursday, Sunday or Monday night after a loss with work the next day.

I look forward to a new president that gets in the media regularly and will say what he/she thinks. Jeff Kennett type will do.

Football is not important to me anymore does not engage/entertain me , I no longer have a passion for the Carlton Football club. Our administration reminds me of fat old men sitting around a fire having a cigar and cognac reminiscing of how wonderful the glory days were and yet dont have the capacity to realise that today can be made wonderful too. As a supporter for 40+ years I feel that I am treated by the club like the aunt you have to invite to your wedding based solely on the fact that your a relative and its the right thing to do. So I will be continue buying a token 3 game membership until CFC can in some way convinces that they care and are commited to the brand and the supporters.
