I would suggest that if Ryan Trainor or Mark LoGiudice become President - this is happening. But as you know - things change.

Seeing as you'd have one or more board and staff sitting in on meetings - you'd never have it 100% independent, there are some things that just wouldn't get up. But there are plenty of ideas, that would have fallen by the wayside in the past, that could be implemented.

Does it need to have board members and staff sitting in on meetings?

Great idea! Would take a board prepared to take recommendations seriously and be truely committed to putting the interests of the club ahead of their own ego and self interest. The board would need to see it as an additional source of ideas rather than a threat.

You'd want a very diverse range of people involved, people prepared to question things, but also able to compromise so resolutions can be made.

Build it and they will come. The key is to get credible level headed people in at the start. BUT
Trying not to be too pointed here, but many on this forum have just as big agenda as those they are trying to "consult"

Just reading the last point above; and I figured you're saying how do we align future applicants's names with the Forum Names we know so well?

Personally I'd love to see a board member plus a staff member such as Jay or Luca there. They live inside the bubble and it's handy to pick their brain on certain things. Also worthwhile to make sure the supporter alliance doesn't 'double dip' on initiatives already being set up by the club.

In Mark LoGuidice and Ryan Trainor you have those board members and as President and Vice-President they'd allay the fears of the others.

Yep. But it's not as if this alliance is going to be uber powerful.

Now - we don't have 'ownership' per se in the AFL - but it's fair to say that Carlton is the closest thing to it and the board represents the ownership.

Bulldust. You know very well Gene Simmons owns the Carlton Football Club.

By my reckoning, you immediately offer a spot for the following factions:

* - Move to the G
* - Stay at Etihad
* - Go back to Princes Park!
* - Bring back Jack!
* - Notches!
* - No notches!
* - Play home games in Sydney!
* - Play home games in Tasmania!
* - Yay! Sticks!
* - Boo! Sticks!
* - Boo! Tricky Dicky Super Dooper Coach Sith Lord Mick
* - Bring back Ratts!
* - Bring back Ratts so we can sack him again!
* - Jordan Murdoch
* - Brad Fisher's 100th game
* - Was Wayne Johnston in the car with Dora that time?
* - Yay! Judd!
* - @#$%&! mercenary, Judd
* - More pokies!
* - Less pokies!
* - More past players back at the club!
* - Less of a boys club!
* - Pafloyul

Yup........... i like the sound of this.

Making it happen is another story. But I would totally support it.

I think the club has to stop treating us as fools and realise we can see through the bullshit spin they spew out.

We heard all pre season how our list is in such great shape. Now we hear 22 players had operations. A large chunk of them being hip operations.

Arizona was the hardest training they've endured..... Yeah because some idiot at the club forgot to book indoor stadiums which forced us to train outdoors on ice. And I been told not much gut running was done either.

How Juddy was gonna play all preseason games this year so he be cherry ripe leading into the season but then we read Judd's been suffering from Achilles tendinitis all last year and requires surgery.

The other line that keeps doing my head in is "our supporters tell us they want to see Carlton back at the MCG" yeah and that's why they are negotiating with Etihad stadium management for a new deal

Well of course they're meeting with Paul Sargeant (Etihad Stadium boss)...You have to meet with both sides! It's not as though the club isn't going to play home games at Etihad anymore. I'm confident it'll still be a 8-3 split (MCG/Etihad) or a 7-4 split. But as for negotiating a new deal with Etihad - that's very misleading.

If they weren't talking to Etihad, they would be negligent.

I am interested by the concept of the supporters forum. Just not sure how it would work.
There are a lot of Carlton supporters that I don't want representing me.
There are a lot of matters that would benefit from this sort of concept.
It's how you select the members that's crucial. I think you would need representatives from silver membership, social club, AFL membership, coterie groups and interstate members.

I like the concept Doc, although I do worry about the machinations of forming the 40 people on the panel (or whatever number is decided). It has the potential to become a political shit fight that derails the purpose of the alliance in the first place. But if that can be managed successfully then I reckon it could be very good.

It's not quite the same mandate, but the Chelsea Pitch Owners is a similar concept where fans have a say in the future of the club:
