Like the team.

Happy to see Scotland & Armfield didn't get games based on reputation. Their preseasons were no good as much as I like them both.

Interesting to see Lucas named. He was very good in the VFL last week, but still thought he would be on the outer given he only had 1/2 a NAB game.

Reckon Holman, McInnes & Lucas will be trimmed to make the final 22. Cripps or Ellard the sub. Holman could be cover for McLean or Bell if they are still injured.

No real extra talls named on the bench, makes me think Lachie is a lock to play. Especially with no Levi named.

I suspect that Cripps will play a few games as the sub this year. Capable of having an impact in a quarter but may not have the tank to go for a game.

I meant to add, that this is not my opinion on who will play but comes directly from The Age. I read somewhere else that the squad of 25 would not be thinned down to the final 22 until some time on Friday, but The Age has clearly got this info from somewhere.

It's a risky strategy. What if we get an early injury? Having said that, I agree we will probably see Cripps as sub a few times this year.

With Bell in the side this week, I don't think either Cripps or Holman will get a game this time unfortunately. Either or both might be late inclusions if Brock and/or Gibbs don't come up.

Lucas is interesting. He might be in the squad as insurance if Yaz or Tex aren't right.

I reckon Everitt, Ellard, McInnes with Menzel as Sub.

If there's no late withdrawals, I reckon the ones to miss out will be Cripps, Holman & Lucas.

Like the balance if Hendo plays forward.

Bell and McLean need to produce.

Can see Ellard, Everitt and Menzel as the 3 interchange, sub probably Cripps.

Yep, that's how I see it, too.

Levi didn't earn his place, Everitt can snag a few and is a far more versatile, mobile and capable tall then Levi.

Scotto has been vanilla in the praccy matches and not surprised he's been left out. Has he gone one year too long? Just a depth player this year, which is fair enough.

Had an absolute shocker against the Bulldogs last week - fumbles, turnovers etc. Not sure though if that's the reason he's not there.

Is anyone else concerned that there is a bit too much "sameness" with blokes like Robinson, Bell, McLean, Curnow and potentially Ellard and Cripps? All hard and tough who will have a crack but a bit slow and not the best users.

All a bit one paced.

How did Menzel perform IYO last week? Deserving of a spot in the 21?

He made one horrendous error where he kicked across the ground straight to a Bulldogs player, which is very unlike him, so I'm happy to consider it an aberration. Other than that, he was OK, kicking two goals from limited opportunities.

I think he deserves his spot because he has had a reasonable pre-season and gives us pace and class up forward in a team in which many players possess questionable finishing skills. Seems to drift in an out of games a bit but maybe that is something that will change over time as he gets more experience.

How do you see him?

Thanks

I didn't see the Dogs game but would play him because there isn't another player on the team that offers all of what he can - good mark for his size, very good kick, reads the play well. I think because he's so inexperienced he can catch teams out being a left footer; we only have Warnock, Watson and Simpson of the best ~22 players who are left foot.

With Betts gone I reckon Menzel is an obvious pick. Different type of player but possesses some X factor.

The team is ok ... will be interesting to see who they pick off the bench. Disappointed Buckley did not make it into the first 25 choices.

This place might be worth a look

& you'll have no problems getting a seat.
