From watching training and practice matches, I think we'll start this season without Kruzer. He’s looked indecisive and hasn't held too many big grabs up forward. Kruze started out as the tractor (big body mopping up and firing out handballs to fleet footed mids), but Bell and now Cripps have made this part of his game obsolete. Would love to see the big fella step up and smash it as a big marking ruck/forward but don’t think he’ll get a chance on Sunday as his confidence looks way down.

I will pay you $100 if we start the season without Kreuzer (baring injury)

The best thing for us would be if Big Levi can have a breakout game and kick 5-6.
You never know where the self belief he will get from a game like that might take him.

Hoping against hope that the MC will make smart brave decisions this year. No guts ... no glory!

Go Blues!

Kruzuer is like having an extra link in the chain. Unlike most rucks he can handball in the middle.
Henderson HF and Casboult FF with Waite in the pocket can work well. If the big Boults endurance and kicking have improved he'll be a starter. One of the best contested marks in the comp IMO and a good get out of Jail option.

Get out of jail option comes at massive costs. Can't see us winning too many with Big Levi in the team. Would take a massive improvement from him and big tweak in the way we set up defensively to cover him. From there he would have to kick straight at the big sticks.

He'd need about 14 shots at goal

It's a surprise for the season proper.

Renouf has been upgraded to the senior list so it looks like they will have Lobbe and Renouf; probably means no Butcher.

Nah, they've been playing all 3 during the preseason. And even played Schulz as well as those 3 against Essendon*.

I had no idea you were waiting.

Buckley Jamison Walker
Touhy Watson Yarran
Everitt McLean Simpson
Kreuzer Henderson Thomas
Menzel Waite Garlett

R: Warnock Murphy Gibbs

I: Curnow Bell Robinson Cripps(Sub)

Appologies: Casboult, Graham, Scotland, Armfield

I suspect the MC will try blokes like Ellard (had plenty of chances), and Bootsma (no comment). Not totally against Ellard ... I just think there are too many in front of him. More than likely Scotland will play ... fair enough.

If that team takes the field - I'm confident of a win.

Unfortunately, I'm worried one or more of Yarran, Mclean, Walker & Bell won't play with injury concerns.

Well that would be a concern. Also ... Henderson might be a bit underdone ... if he is ... straight swap with Levi.
Kreuz needs to stand up ... this year is now or never for him.

I like that side

I just dont get why you think that is brave or innovative!

Given the inability of Judd and Carrazzo to play this match and as you pointed out the fringe choices such as Army, Ellard, Graham, Scotland....... is it really a stretch??

Lucas, Bootsma, Rowe, McInnes etc. need to improve or make way but they also need some game time at the highest level to show their worth or lack there of.

Of the team you have picked who comes out for Judd, Carrazzo?

If Walker and Yarran dont make it into squad tonight, who comes in?

It will be very interesting to see how your side compares with the MC.

And I'll match it. Kreuz is in the first 10 picked every week when fit. Any thoughts we'd play Casboult, Cripps, Bell or even Wiggins ahead of him is crazy talk.

Hmmm .. I was talking about the MC last year ... not me. I will give you an example of not being smart ... Selecting Bootsma again. Brave selection means taking a few risks ... I saw little of that last year.

I think playing Watson, Buckley, Menzel and Cripps in the first game of the year is risk taking. I would be very pleased to see this type of initiative from them. Its just ... I haven't seen much of it.

Also ... I would like to get Armfield into that side ... it looks a little bit slow. Hopefully the MC will surprise.

We can't just depend on the tactics of Dr Strangelove you know!

Anyone know if there is a venue close-ish to Etihad which will show the Grand Prix?

I'm assuming I'll be able to get a seat with my 11 game home membership, even though I won't start heading to the ground until after the GP???

Selecting Bootsma would be brave.

Your team isn't at all radical or risky. Looks alright.
